All this discussion of our 1973 summer holiday has got me scanning the slides in - here is a view of the Duomo, etc from the Uffizi Gallery, in Florence/Firenze:

But much more interesting to us here is close up of a very interesting set of cars, OK and a rather famous lump of marble (I think before it was moved indoors):

and with the lighting wound up to reveal the cars in shade:

Well, speaking of 70's London and a Lancia Flavia, Peter Gabriel was shot in his art designers Flavia in 1974 for his album cover, with a hose used to get the water droplets. The colour was added onto the b & w image afterwards.

Ta for that info, ever since i bought that album when new i wondered what the car was smile

1983, and a mixed bag of predominantly British cars on Stockton-on-Tees High Street (apparently the widest high street in the UK), including a rubber bumpered MGB GT with a dodgy louvred window visor (maybe an Autoplas?) lower left.

I thought Marlborough had that claim to fame.

I’m sure it’s Stockton, though not by much.

Can anyone identify the silver American car in my picture of Firenze? Immediately thought AMC Rambler or Ford Falcon, but the swage line down the side does not fit either.

Not sure it is an American car, give the size comparison with the Beetle next to it......a yank would be dwarfing a Beetle, even a small one like a Falcon etc.
Opel or Taunus perhaps?

Marlborough is unusual for being both long and wide, but I think it is neither the longest nor the widest!

1978 pay and display car park charges. When you zoom in on the Canmore site, it reveals:

Up to 2 hours - 5p (display 1 ticket)
2 to 5 hours - 10p (display 2 tickets)
Over 5 hours - 15p (display 3 tickets)

A couple of years earlier in Elgin - just pay at the hut!

What's the car far left of the top pic?

That's what I was leaning towards so I'll go with that. Also someone's screen definition must be much better than mine if they can read the car park charges!

I definitely can’t read it off the posted photo either laugh but I can when zooming in on the original image (which also seems to confirm it’s an Opel).

I got the year wrong, though - the photo’s actually from 1977.

Turbobanana will be pleased - Renault 16 far right of second shot!

And the 2 Austin ADOs in the first pic - both rather fancy 1300GTs with the fussy hubcaps and vinyl roof?

Giorgio Lotti made this picture 1974 in Milan, and he has hidden at least four cars in it.

Am I that predictable? smile

I never really thought they were that common in period but there seem to be hundreds on this thread.

Ours was a 1565cc TL in dark blue, CUN770L. It replaced an aging Mk1 Escort, XDM398G, and was a very good car. The most exciting bit for my brother and I was the squishy seats (the front ones reclined!) although being vinyl they got a bit hot in summer.

Not a Brit registered car in sight - or is there?
White Volvo 340 with the roof rack on the left in front of the camper. RHD wiper set up. Dad's painted the headlamp lenses yellow

Here is a super-zoom of the mystery car, I think that it looks quite big compared to the Alfa in front of it (and that it has a roof rack, not that that is relevant).
