Is there something unusual about Italian registrations. The plates on the front and rear seem to have had the letters and numbers transposed.

Yes, in the old days the area code bit ( TO Torino) moved position from the front to the back plate

It was about ten past four, if that helps. No doubt someone will be able to narrow down which years that bus service would have been running an RF (?) on that route at that time, possibly from memory.

I remember stopping in the Esso station in Wendover one summer morning years ago and as I filled my car up, JK turned up in his Ferrari 275 GTB. It was sensational and JK was such a nice bloke - showing me and my young son all around the car. It amused me that on the passenger seat was a piece of A4 with a biro sketch of the dash and all the buttons and warning lights highlighed with their functions neatly written out, "lights", "wipers", "oil press" etc - he said when you have so many cars you don't remember how they all work!!

F-Type estate would have been rare even back then, as would the Type 3 Squareback.

The very bottom car is an F series Vauxhall Victor estate and the white estate by the chap walking is a VW type 3.

Thought it looked familiar, that's Victoria Hall in Hanley.

Thanks, I'm not a Vauxhall aficionado. My best mate had a VW like but didn't know it was called Type 3.

If memory serves (and I'm a babe of 1964) it was badged as VW Variant.

I confess to using my grey cells and not google, so I could be wrong. I don't recall VW being called Type "anything" until the Type 4 van.

The Type 1 was VWs internal code for the Beetle, T2 was the first Transporter / Bus and the Type 3 was the compact mid range car available as either a notchback, fastback or estate. The estate was known colloquially as Variant in all markets except the US where it was the Squareback.

My father had a white 1967 1600 Variant which brought me home from the maternity ward in 1970! Exactly like this

Girl at Primary School, her parents had an Orange Estate.

Seen one around Horton Kirby, keep meaning to get a picture.I think it may be the two door.

Orange was a colour only on the face lift I think, with the bigger lights and box section bumpers. They were all 2 door!
