Point of order, "Upthread"? eek that's surely a made up word.

V6 engines and sunroofs are all very well, but did it have a pair of below-bumper fog lights? laugh

Nice contrast in size with the Mini.

Type 3 VW behind the Mini. You are totally photoshopping one of these or a R16 into all of these pics you're posting!! Were they the 2 best selling cars in the UK ever?

Don’t think that we have one with just a Granada & an R16 in yet, which I have come to discover is the purpose of the thread!

I laughed when I watched John Sim in ‘Human Traffic’ and he has an old Zodiac to cruise around Cardiff, listening to rap. A different image.
And Oz's at the start of Auf Wiedersehen Pet which didn't quite make it to Germany.
Ackshully, that scene where they break down, and Wayne come past in a truck? It was filmed just outside Düsseldorf, on the A57, well inside Germany. Dunno why that scene in particular, because hardly any of it was filmed in Düs...

Actually, upon reflection, my dad’s Zodiac wasn’t badged Executive. I remember that another boy’s dad DID have Executive on the boot, and we were thus relegated to ‘non-person’ status.

I cannot remember what the differences were...we had the V6, sunroof, auto, and blue vinyl seats (how many vinyl cows gave up their hides for that?). Even the full width reflector.

I won’t be able to rest until I know...

I think it was basically cosmetic. More fancy trim, whitewall tyres, different grille and rear panel and a sunroof. I think the front seats were individual (rather than a bench) and more patterned with a button effect. All this is from memory many years ago when my dad’s business partner had a white one. No doubt someone more knowledgeable will be along to correct me smile

I keep trying to find rarities like Cortinas and Maxis but all these Renaults and VWs are too dominant. laugh

I don’t think there are any R16s or Type 3/4s in these photos from 1978, although I think there might be an R6 behind the R4 in the first one.

I think the big lump behind the subtly branded Mazda might also be a Moskvich?

Yes, I agree that the square headlight looks like it belongs to a R6.

I'll take the Saab 99 in the first pic and the tasty looking 'Sud Ti with the spotlights in the second.

Never mind the slightly battered looking (Italian registered?) 16, check out those flairs!

Groovy!

It sure is a Moskvitch - 412 perhaps but I'm no expert on these awful things. I drove a few examples when I first got my licence and they were all bad. Massive amount of play in the steering and treacherous handling on crossply tyres.

I scour these photo threads and various flickr accounts trying to spot either model of droopsnoot Vauxhall on the road. Seems like anyone who bought them never parked them anywhere. And no, before anyone brings it up, they didn't rust straight away. There's at least a couple of years that someone could have caught one in the wild.
