Thread deviation. The Mk ll Transit was notorious for rust. My Mk ll was no exception laugh

My MK2 SWB had several rust holes at 11 years old. But vans in daily commercial use were worn out before then anyway.
Yeah, most were knackered before then. I replaced both front wings, both side skirts, lower door skins, the bonnet and the rear arches (twice) on ours, as well as doing plenty of chassis repairs laugh

That said, the front arches on our subsequent Mk 7 Transit were starting to rust after only 6 years, so they didn’t improve much in the later models.

There's some fantastic imagery out there, I just came across these whilst looking for some other period stuff....

Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdink's manager Gordon Mills with his SIII RR Continental Flying Spur, apparently before dipping his toe into showbiz he was a doctor in the Rhonda valley....

He could so easily have been presenter of a popular BBC car show.
Surely a Cloud III MPW ?

Yes humble pie eating time again, third time for me today (I'll blame the woozyness currently afflicting me due to having knocked a tooth out whilst working on my Mini yesterday rolleyes), for some reason I thought it was a FS variant.

To make amends, here's a period shot of Gina Lollobrigida with her Cloud, not sure if it's a I or a II....

The delightful thing about this section of pistonheads is that you can't make a mistake and get away with it, but we're all very polite about.

Those SIII Cloud MPW are perfection.

Not sure if the Lollobrigada is a I or a II. The big change was the engine.

That RR is just so much more elegant than the modern iteration. Sublime.

I found online 54 AGF is a Cloud II. So I guess 47 AGF is too.

I've just realised what the design tool they used for the current cars - Lego!

Thanks wink.

Quite a number of celebs / high worth types cars had 'GF' markers in the '60s, some of which passed though the hands of Brian Epstein's company Brydor, Beatles George and John both had Radford Cooper Ss in this range, LGF 695D and LGF 696D respectively. The former still belongs to George's family but John's car disappeared in '68 with all sorts of rumours about its whereabouts since then. PH : utter trivia matters wink

Abbey Road, 24/11/66....

GF was only South West London after 1974. Prior to that it was a general Greater London code, not specific to just one area office.

Alas not as far as that particular pic is concerned! But (there's always a but!) for bonus useless trivia I can add that in the '50s, during it's last years on BR as a mainline certified museum piece, some wags decided to paint one side of it in BR lined out black livery as a joke just to upset the GWR purists. It didn't go down well!

Sorry P5NB that was in the mid-'80s (not during the '50s) and was done by some chaps at Bridgenorth on the Severn Valley Railway. wink
