Many happy memories with Davidsons. Ron used to like his golf and cricket and leave the showroom in my care when he "had to go on an important errand" ..cough cough; we built up a great working relationship and I used to occasionally sell cars in his absence; he was a good man.
Reminds me that when I was 15 I was employed as a valeter at the local used car gaff and frequently used to man the site solo on a Sunday. Salesmen Dave was never far away but usually I would just speak to the customers because in the days before mobile phones I couldn't always reach him.

He'd come back at closing time and I'd have 3 deposits lined up. Didn't know a thing about margins you see, so I couldn't give discounts!

Happy days.
Aren't valeters meant to get rid of deposits?
biggrin

It was a furniture factory and warehouse, modified and converted to flats in the 1980s.

As an aside and apropos of not very much, some of the apartments in that building tend to host a rather transitory population including a number of ladies of negotiable affection.
No. (Before you ask).

Negotiable affection! Brilliant.

I bet that very few were 'ladies'.

They probably were, just "of the night".

That is my new Europa on the day I bought it new in 1969, it is outside the garage of my parents house at 63 Burnt Oak Lane, Sidcup, Kent.
The garage was actually round the back of the house which was technical in Welbeck Ave.It is still there today (the garage not the Europa) you can see it on Google Earth.

My Dad kept his Hunter GT daily driver in the garage so my Europa lived outside.

The guy up the road had just taken delivery of the Morris Minor from Beadles in Dartford and was somewhat proud of it so he left it on the road for all the neighbours to see, but the kids were all round my place looking at the Europa.

I bought the car from Roger Clark cars in Narborough Leicestershire, Roger was a well known rally driver at the time.
I managed to blag those Minilites off him to sweeten the deal at £1275.

I kept the car for 3 years and covered nearly 70,000 miles without a major drama, including 2 trans-Europe trips to Spain, non- stop except for petrol and a pee, 1,000 miles in less than 23 hours. I also competed it in club races at Brands Hatch and did some 5 car mug rallies with 7Oaks & district motor club.

Like all the cars I have had, I regret selling it now so I have bought another one which I am restoring as a cloned copy, Carnival Red with Minilite wheels but I have gone off script a bit with a 1600 Renault Feugo crossflow and 5 speed transaxle and few other mods like hydraulic clutch and electric parking brake because I remember smashing my knees on the Cortina umbrella handbrake every time I got in and out.

I am hoping to have my new (latest) car on the road this summer (2021)

You wouldn't want to be caught in a breeze with those; definitely cut for 'comfort'. hehe

Brilliant photo there - my Dad had a 1954 Austin A40 Somerset when I was born until he replaced it when I was 8 years old. thumbup

My best mate's dad would have called those "Dancing Trousers" - plenty of ballroom. laugh

And why did some of those Hills number plates have big gaps between the two halves of the reg' number, instead of the proper spacing?

Meanwhile back in April 1955 a fast lady partakes in a London M.C. rally in her long-door TR2.

If I'm not very much mistaken that's an Allard J2 Safari Station Wagon in the background.
