Yeah, gotta be from that period, though Standards of the era had either a spilt rear screen or a spare wheel carrier on the back I think.

ETA I’d discounted the Javelin earlier (though I called it a Jupiter rolleyes)

Sandwiched between a Hillman Minx and what I thought was a Traction Avant, but the visible bottom corner of the windscreen seems to be too squared-off to be the Citroen.

What is the light blue job that the Humber is about to collide with ? Standard Vanguard.

I don't think Jags or Bentleys had boot-mounted spares. First thought re car in front was Riley Kestrel, but I think the rear window is too small.
Is it a post-war Jaguar Mk IV?

Hard to imagine that photo's half-a-century old, it doesn't look hugely different to how it would today whereas 50 years before that, ie 1921, things would have been noticeably different.

It looks more like a Derby Bentley to me. Maybe Park Ward or similar.

Does look very much like one...good shout.
Must have had a repaint though, as I don't recall 'baby blue' being a Pilot paint colour in the day?

Would the Imp's black on yellow rear plate indicate that the photo was later than 1971?

Not really, plenty of new cars got the new reflective white/yellow numbers from G-reg onwards in 69/70.

The fear of parking dings must be a recent thing, as today the cars would be less concentrated at the entrance. I suppose the difference is that cars used to actually fit into the spaces with space between!

I also thought it might be a Bentley, and numerous 3 1/2 and 4 1/4 litre ones from the 30s had boot mounted spares; I've looked in several of my old Bentley books but haven't yet found one like it, although of course coachbuilt cars complicate it slightly.

A colour shot of Dunkeld, Perthshire, in 1977, and a different model of Renault from usual!

Another shot from the same sort of era features a very chunky-looking 4x4, partly visible behind and to the right of the Saab. Anyone recognise the make and model?
