And a R30 just poking its nose in on the left. Same colour as mine, but before I imported it. I thought it was obligatory to have a R16 in all these photos ?
There is what looks like a 6 though, a couple of cars behind the Dolomite on the left.

Agree that the other Renault looks like a 12, not a 20 / 30.

Depending on which source you believe, one of 160 modified by Panelcraft, although some of the chaps in the P6OC think it may have been closer to 200.

Thanks - I wasn't aware of the P6 Estate. Proportions are a little odd but not a bad attempt by an external company.

A photograph I took in the early seventies after an epic drive in my Hillman Avenger across Europe to Rome.
Surprised to see three Beetle s , I remembered Italy in the day as wall to wall Fiats.

In the late 1970's that was the car my Dad wanted soooooooo much (as he had to have an estate for work reasons) but they were rare as hens teeth on the used market, in the late 70's and when one did turn up for sale, it was way above what my old man could afford.......... hence him having a couple of Triumph estates instead, an early 2000TC Mk.2 then followed by a 2500S.

I was admiring it too. Unfussy, nice clean lines.
They were a lovely car, one day our neighbour in Leeds came home in a brand new orange one after years of very ordinary motors. It was definitely badged an Opel. Probably mid Seventies?
Here's a press pic of a RHD UK Manta series 1 with the chrome bumpers so definitely available in the early days

The only bit left of that foreground scene today is the signal box (now a taxi co office). We still have a station, but wiser heads moved it over the road to avoid unnecessary holdups (it became a terminus in the 1960’s after the link to Lewes was severed by a new road).

I know nothing about the P6.

I've had 3 P6 Rovers. Smashing cars.

I love the Manta and Cavalier Sportshatch and Coupe.

The sad thing about this thread is how it highlights the stness of modern cars.

Modern cars are bland, boring but very capable. EVs will take that trend a huge step further whistle

The early ones were known as the Manta 'A', and the later ones as Manta 'B' rather than 1 or 2 .

Sorry my bad. I meant the series 1 version of the "Manta B". ie before the facelift to body coloured bumpers. The question is whether the car in the original 1982 pic is a Vauxhall or Opel - and the answer I think we've got to, is that we can't tell as that shape was sold in both Vauxhall and Opel flavours, right? Looks like the Opel had openings in the nose section that the Cav lacked - never realised that before.

One of those Manta ‘A’s front and centre in this car park shot from Kilmarnock in 1988 - looking slightly worse for wear with a wonky front bumper.

That takes me right back to my teens!

I remember reading a road test in Motor magazine of a Manta A that had visited Bill Blydenstein to have a turbo fitted, and thinking I would love one - when I got my driving licence obviously. laugh

The Manta B with the chrome bumpers were sold with Opel and Vauxhall badges in the UK. I remember buying a V plate Cavalier 2000GLS Sportshatch in 1985 which was a pretty good car, just not the example I bought.

But then they got revised with body-coloured bumpers in 1982 or 83 and were either 1.8s or GT/Es and we only got those with Opal badges. There was a garage near me called Barwells that specialised in arrnaging for people to buy RHD ones in Belgium because they were so much cheaper at the time.

Also, re the Renault on the left, it's a 12. The 12 had indicators in the bumper whilst the 20/30 had them underneath, plus the chrome grill surround. The reflection on the sunken bezels make it look like it has twin round headlamps
