There is a bit more of Bracknell in 'The Offence'

And Harry Potters uncles house is near Tescos at Martins Heron
A grim old film if ever there was one, Bracknell looks decidedly bleak in 'The Offence'!

Dad bought a Double 6 when it was 2 years old. It was a pre injection carburetted car. Went like stink but you needed a flexible friend to fill her up because if you pushed it it made 8 mpg. Best was 12-14 mpg. He stored it in the early 80's depression, because he couldn't sell it. It rotted away very quickly.
I remember you posting this pic before - I noticed the RR Silver Shadow far left of frame. A "proper" couple of cars there!!

I assume your dad and Mr Big in the Rolls have just come to check that the lads have buried all the bullion, the shooters and the security guard under that pile of rubble on the right?

And that was filmed back in the early 70's when that particular estate was only about 5/6 years old.

It was filmed during the Autumn / Winter of 1971 / 72, it was one of two films to be made as part of Sean Connery's contract for agreeing to do 'Diamonds Are Forever', the other was 'Zardoz'. wink

The film crew of 'Villain' giving the poor old Jag a bit of help in Bracknell, 24th September 1970...

First appearance of an XJ6 in a gangster film, driven by Joss Ackland's character in (appropriately!) 'Villain', shot in 1970...
I have a vague recollection that this was the film I was watching when it was interrupted to announce that "Desert Shield" had turned into "Desert Storm", the Gulf War. Is it the one where someone is held out of an office window a few floors up to persuade them to do something?
Haha yes I remember that as well. Also because it was my 17th birthday.

I don't know why but I always find the letter J in a reg very odd.
I recall there was some kind of change to the date that the letters came out in 1971 which made the number of J registered cars comaparatively rare.
I think Speed 3 was referring to the photo of the Daimler, which had J in the start rather than as the year signifier.

Burton was as pissed as a fart throughout filming, yet still managed to be convincing and very, very scary.

A great film and very underrated. I've walked cross the small footbridge they used after the robbery, walking from the blue Zodiac to the P5B. Hasn't changed a bit.

I drive trains under that footbridge, it hasn't changed much at all really. The two stations either side of the footbridge were also used in the film, South Acton and Acton Central...

The booze was certainly flowing during the making of the film, when they shot the scenes in the Assembly Rooms in Kentish Town, Liz Taylor was behind the bar pulling pints...

The black Mini at the beginning of the film apparently still exists - is it the one you have?

The S Type and P5B (a Rover press car) probably lived a bit longer although early S Types were already becoming bangers by 1970. used to see them in scrapyards in the mid seventies.

Alas the Mini isn't mine but yes it's still with us, the owner popped up on a Mini forum I'm on to say he's restoring it, it's a '69 Wood & Pickett Mk2 Cooper S. The P5B Coupe 'HXC 802H' was passed on to the producers of 'The Persuaders' at the end of 1970 and used in an episode called 'The Morning After'.

(Another P5B Coupe 'JJO 725F' was also used in another episode of 'The Persuaders' and reappeared in the ITV series 'Villains' in 1972 wink)

That P5B coupe was just SO SO perfect for the Villain.... Big, British and somehow truly sublime & menacing... all at the same time.

Burton's sidekicks Del Henney (Straw Dogs) and John Hallam were very well cast as well. Not sure about Tony Selby!

Ian McShane was superb as well - I wonder how many would have 'got it' if his character in Sexy Beast was called Wolfe Lissner?
