Hope the Jag proves to be enjoyable to own! My grandad had a petrol blue 340 in the late 60s (from memory) with a red leather interior … I can see it now … picnic tables n’ all.
Upgrade to run out poverty spec 340 lost the picnic tables, rumours of a handful of the very first 340 had the tables still.

Simon at Fosseway Performance may have a modern solution to poor original brakes. I've fitted his 420G/Mk10 brakes developed for racing to my 1962 Rapide in place of the Dunlop kit and they work very well in a heavy car. No connection etc

Hi Huntsman,

Are you still on the island?? I might spot you in the Jag one morning??

I did spot one last week, whilst on holiday down in Dorset/ Devon. Enjoy...

I think the photo is a Mitsuoka not a Jag

Lost leather interior too, and was replaced with Ambla, although one could order leather as an option. From memory, only three 3.8 340's were built. As regards the brakes, they should be quite adequate but Fosseway brakes are pretty dear and in my opinion overkill. I fitted Zeus 20 years back and they are much better than the originals and far cheaper than Fosseway.

Yes, the last photo is a Nissan-based Mitsuoka, sporting a one litre engine. Everything they make is truly horrendous.

I wouldn't call them all horrendous, 'challenging' perhaps but I'd give garage room to one or two of them.

Yes. I recall us saying we might pass on Forrest Rd, but we've moved to Chale Green, surrounded by sheep and cauliflowers!

I went for the Zeus calipers on the 150 too, worked really well.
I can't speak for the original round pad version of the Dunlop's. I don't even know if they were ever fitted to the Mk2, but the normal cartridge style Dunlop brakes would happily pull the 150 up from over 120MPH on the track in a way you'd never think of trying on the road.

Maybe I'm thinking of one of the others he had down the years - he had a few in the 60s and 70s ... including a Mark 10.

Seriously thinking of using my Etype daily and not give a toss.

Historically I’m a polisher so that decision doesn’t come easy.

Love seeing a classic covered in road dirt like it would have been in period.

I just can’t handle water leaking into the cabin

Curiously a late340 with picnic tables here https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1395650

Clearly I'm not to be believed!

Well, the vendor clearly states that the picnic tables were part of work recently carried out. From a failing memory I don't think that the picnic tables were standard nor an option. One must remember that the 340 was a pared down economy run-out version of the MK 2 with even leather upholstery as an option.

I must have had a rush of blood to the head. Just bought this P4 Rover.

No reason why it couldn't be a daily driver I suppose. Car is mechanically excellent and bodywork very solid but the paintwork has a few issues.

If there is one thing I love about the P4 it is the tool kit under the shelf on the passenger side. A doctor used to give me a lift home from work in a P4, and it was just one of those things that seemed so well thought out.

I’ve never driven a Toledo but I’ve driven a 1500TC and I’ve had a Vitesse for 20 years... agree with most of what you say but I’m really surprised that you say you have blind spots. I find modern cars are terrible for this whilst my old Triumph is fairly good
The worst one is the rear steamed up window I alluded to frown, but also the door mirrors are classic flat glass without a very good field of vision. I find even on a car this age (1975) that the angle of the A pillars obscures the road a lot at junctions, and being 6ft 3, although my head is clear of the roof, my visibility is reduced. Still enjoy it, just have to concentrate a bit harder. smile

That possibly explains it… I’m far from 6 foot so the angles may well be very different beer
