Hartwell SubaImp
Discussion
Small update, I have been concentrating on fitting the senders and sorting the wiring on the dials past few days, if I asked you to fit the water temperature sender in a more difficult to get too place you couldn't ! ....... situated under the turbo which would need removing so have relocated and worked around, also fitted oil temperature sender into new modified sump plug.
The doors that came with the car were fibreglass, don't fit, and look awful so have sourced a set of replacement steel doors, very heavy for such a small door at moment but once glass and as much as possible removed hoping will not be too bad.

Could you not cut out some of the frame, remove the winder mechanism, etc. from the steel doors to get their weight down?
Yes absolutely thats the plan, will make same as before on my hartwell car but sadly never got chance to remove and weigh the doors, just surprised how heavy such a small door can be.TISPKJ said:
Not sure why you would bother, just cut the entire panel out nice and neat.
Indeed, not my door!I'm just about to take the winder out of this door and replace the glass with plastic. Also door opening mechanism to change. The door is GRP, as it stands at the moment it is 15 kg, I was surprised so heavy. With glass and winder removed I hope to be nearer to 10.
So a little update, it has been so cold in the garage this past couple of weeks that my time in there has been a bit limited, so I finished off the door cards as you see above, wired in all the instruments to the senders, found correct feed to the rev counter, and got the alternator to work.
Although both ends of the car are supposedly 1994 Subaru they are different, we think the front is from an import as it has alloy wishbones and slightly bigger discs and callipers, 276 v 294 from memory, the issue there is that we suspected they may foul the new wheels which arrived this week, they do so I sourced a set of the smaller discs and callipers which I will swap over.
Also test fitted the doors which will be fine but realised to do properly I need to fit the front which has been a bit more time consuming as it needs to line up perfectly so I'm currently in the process of welding on the bonnet pins, also needed to lower the car at the front by an inch as once bodywork is on I need to cut around all the panels to fit bigger arches, the kit is for 13" wheels at best and we are running 15".
Put on 2 wheels for a bit of inspiration ......
