If I was going to mispronounce Lancia, I'd say Lan-see-a never heard of Larncia. Must be posh. But I do know it's Lancha, having lived in Italy for a couple of years.

I confess I was always in the 'Larncia' camp, until this thread educated me otherwise biggrin. As are/were my petrolhead friends - none of us are posh, but we're all home counties lads, so perhaps it's more of a 'Bath' vs 'Barth' thing.

Lahn-sia to an English person; Lahn-cha to an Italian.
Porshh to an Englander; Por-scheh to a German.
Renn-ohh to a Biftek, Reh-No! to a Frog.

But it's always an Omega watch. The same mega in megabyte and megaphone. Because it means Big O in Greek. I'll never give in to the clueless idiots who say O-Meega - most of whom seem to work in jewellers. Thank goodness there's no longer a Vox-haul of the same name!

Ermmm..., I have forgotten the Italian for "I am joking". This is just a light hearted Saturday thread.

Italian double consonants.... Moto Guzzi. That's Gutzi. But Brit bikers all say Guhsi or Goozi.

For a brief period I was going out with a Korean girl who made me learn how to say it because it annoyed her when I said Hi 'n' die

I'm a bit late to this party, but the Boomtown Rats got it right with their song "Tell me why I don't like Hyundais"

Unless it's a Speedmaster Moonwatch, which is not the automatic choice. Unless you're going to the moon of course!

I don't know how many exist that didn't go directly to NASA in the 1960s. As I understand it the production run came later to commemorate the Apollo programme.

I have directed Bodie and Doyle to steal one from NASA, along with a Titian, a Gainsborough, and all the Rothkos. My hollowed out volcano base is behind schedule and over budget.

My daughter rang me saying she was off to Scotland to interview someone in Kirk-cud-bright. I replied that I had been there and also to Miln-gav-ie. When she came back she had apparently learned a bit of Scots pronunciation wink
