Not really crazy money at all.
As a competition car, you couldn't build one for rallying for anything like that price, so it's a relative bargain in that respect.
However, its neither a full Grp2 works spec car (being a pinto engine) or a pukka Grp1 period RS2000 as it has a big wing shell and other things incorrect, so you would be limited to non-FiA Historic events for using it, but there's enough of those around to have fun in.

Very nicely put together.
That Mk 1 has some Very nice parts, and as aero says, unless you can build it yourself, to replicate that spec would costalotta more than 63k,
However, I am surprised it made that amount giving the Engine and G-box, not sure it would be eligible for Historic rallying in that configuration either.

I'm surprised someone built it that way tbh.....does seem odd as that's a lot of money for not being able to use it in bone fide Historic events, but maybe they are content to just have done local single venue stuff and just love Escorts? That Mk 1 has some Very nice parts, and as aero says, unless you can build it yourself, to replicate that spec would costalotta more than 63k,

Even then, most people would fit a 5 speed rather than a 4-speed, but hey, someone wanted it as it is.
Unless that someone already has a ZF and a BD lying around not doing anything?

X Flow 711m block wasnt released till early 71 IIRC around the same time Ford updated the Essex V6 (bit more HP) D shaped intake ports etc
711 was August/September 1970 in time for the revised Escort, Mark 3 Cortina and Mexico. The revised V6 arrived (iirc) in late 1971 for the Capri and early 1972 for the Granada.Mark A S said:
Fitting them would make that car IMO.
Exactly, as it is at the moment - it is just a 'fun car' and IMO worth no more than any other recreation/evocation (great word for a lash up) Mk1 Escort. There are genuine Ford's, worth the money, with history/heritage etc........this is NOT one?

I give up.

Many of you will know about this Mk 1, be interesting for your thoughts.
It’s a lovely car with great attention to detail with an excellent spec, will be a LOT of fun to drive I’m sure, be interesting to see if the IRS alters the classic Escort handling characteristics.
Personally though I “think” I prefer more originality even though the Look is spot on, if I was ever lucky enough to drive it, I might change my mind

I hadn't even realise the car existed and missed the fist seven or so episodes, until I saw it on another PH thread. Many of you will know about this Mk 1, be interesting for your thoughts.

I do like the idea of a Restomod, where they drive like a new car and have modern reliability, but look like a classic from the outside.
I hesitate to think what that car cost, given the amount of thought and effort that went into it.
Edited: If I recall, Gordon was quoted as having wanted a twin Cam look, but modern drivability. The only criticism I had for that is the lack of a six dial gauge pod, which always symbolises the higher spec escorts for me (even though the XL broke that rule)..

I can appreciate the effort and work involved from an engineering point of view....Many of you will know about this Mk 1, be interesting for your thoughts.

But, it doesn't float my boat at all.

Excellent - enjoyed that - a proper 'sorted' Mk1 imho and one I would love to own. I do like the idea of a Restomod, where they drive like a new car and have modern reliability, but look like a classic from the outside.

That's a proper Barry Boy gash job.....80k build for a restoration, I can understand, 80k build for a legal historic rally car I can understand....
This just leaves me perplexed.....

Mark,
I see you have one, so I will ask you.
Do the RS2000 Mk1’s have the lower step cutout below the radiator, like the Mk2’s did?
This will be for a new big header rad. I think they are listed as Gp4.
Don't know about Mk.2's, but the only differences in the front end panel work of the Mk.1 RS2, was the batt tray support panel being repositioned slightly, the rear lip of the bulkhead being notched out around the rear of the cam cover and the front slam panel being notched out by a couple of inches, for the big header tank rad/leccy fan, and the deletion of the centre vertical support.......I think that's all, but it was a long time ago.I see you have one, so I will ask you.

Aero will know for sure, but mine does as it has a very discreet larger capacity rad fitted, no chance of over heating
Both my comp Mk 2 rally cars had cuts outs for larger radiators, not standard fittment though.
Re that black Mk1, link above, not my cup of tea either, for 80k a spec similar to the Murray Mk1 would IMO be preferable.
Edit, Ha, see I told you aero would know
