Fiesta 1.2 ...future classic smile

Low price, but I don't think I'll buy it and stash it away as part of my pension fund!

I like that, a pity they didn't market it. Which V8 was it?

The Perana Granada v8 was a Basil Green of Johannesburg experimental version that the fuel crises of the early 1970s killed off.

Cool, just read this and never realised these old cars were worth so much or people even wanted them. My granddads got an old white one in his garage (dont know how old, just remember it was really old cos it had funny black number plates with a G on the end) which he calls twink, or might be twinky, sounds like a pet rabbit haha and he had it before like I was even born.

I remember him making me look at it in his garage just before I started driving and him goin on about this and that, twin this, special that, 4 Sibbys (whatever they are). He even said it had some special light Mini wheels or something which sounded a bit strange, Mini wheels on a Ford? I sat in it and there was nothing in it, no media, no satnav, no way of streaming stuff, no phone charger, no cup holders, no reversing camera nothing. How do you reverse a car without a camera? It even had funny levers to open the windows, are they all the same?

I also remember him saying it had an atlas in it, which I thought was odd but thought it was instead of satnav but reading this maybe it was something else. My dad doesn't like it and granddad now just drives an old 15 reg Honda Jazz. I'll have to ask him if he wants to give it to me if he dont use it hahaha

Evening all.

Thought I'd mention this as it could be Very useful info to those who have older cars with high compression engines with Big carbs.
My Mk 1 RS has been a right barsteward to start from cold even since i have had it, tried several different methods, but mostly it would do a proper "Basil" cold starting, or rather not starting.
Anyway, couple of weeks back, i removed a plug to see if it was flooded, turned it over to clear whilst stood by the door looking at the engine, so Not touching the throttle, and the bugger fired up instantly! Re fitted the plug, would not start.
More buggering around, would not start, removed another plug to check, turned over and it fired on 3 again chuffing like a steam engine. This time, i left it for around 10 secs to get some heat in.
Re fitted the plug, it started ok. It has always started well when warm.

Thought about this for a while and concluded the starter motor might be a bit weak and drawing too much current for cold starting. So, i bit the bullet and bought one of these Powerlite modern starters that claimed lightness,60% more power etc.
Fitted it, NO more starting problems, fires up well after enough pumps of the throttle.

So, the old adage, " you never too old to learn" is true wink

Out of interest, what compression are you running?
