Heartbreaking. I "suppose" if you have the skills and facility to rebuild it yourself,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Wonder where the fire started, poss under the bonnet then followed the fuel line back to the Tank in the boot ?
Indeed.Wonder where the fire started, poss under the bonnet then followed the fuel line back to the Tank in the boot ?
Its still got its AVO build plate which looks OK, although I'm not sure about his assertion the shell is OK?
It doesn't take long in a fire to toast light gauge steel.
However, I wonder if he had an extinguisher on board as the plastic cam belt cover doesn't even look like it's melted into a gooey mess, so maybe it really is only soot damage under the bonnet. Its look like there's more melt damage in the interior than under the bonnet, so maybe it was an interior electrical fire that started it? More damage on the left rear as well, which is opposite side to the tank.....so all a bit odd.
You can understand the heartbreak of not wanting to start all over again, if he restored it before.

This one is a sad sight.......but can't believe what has already been bid to given the work needed!
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164954746226?hash=item2...
This is of course a 'write-off' and cannot go back on the road i.e. fire damaged steel means that the shell cannot be repaired?https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164954746226?hash=item2...
So all the people bidding (up to such a figure), what are they going to do with it?

Re-shell it.

Surely that seriously devalues the originality? You can buy a brand new built Mk1 shell from Motorsport-Tools.
As in, it's not an original AVO build? Still potentially a valuable Ford, just considerably less valuable?
Virtually every £75-100k+ 'ex-works' car left is on its 2nd or 3rd or more shells.
And anyway, its still better to have a re-shelled car back on the road than just scrap it and its gone forever.

Re the RS16 above, the AVO lot are talking about that on FB, apparently it was originally Maize yellow when new. I suppose a colour change might de value the car, not in this case though looking at that price
I guess it was sprayed white as at one point Maize would have been an extremely unpopular colour, where as now it would be a desired, and iconic colour. Mark A S said:

Given its still got it's AVO build plate (just out of shot) which (if original) will have Maize in big letters stamped on it, I'd say yes, that price is really kite flying.......but its Goodwood, so its got 20% GAT rate added to its value (Goodwood Added Tax)aeropilot said:

So originality counts for nothing, so long as it has some tenuous link to being a RS that still makes it worth silly money....incredible!You can buy a brand new built Mk1 shell from Motorsport-Tools.
What is so hard to understand about that?
