It was early 90’s. Simon built it with his mate Gary who was a trainer at 3M and travelled the world teaching paint techniques etc. Simon was a partner in Auto Diagnostics on the Bermuda Industrial Estate in Nuneaton. We became very good friends and I am trying to get in touch. They were also building a Droopsnoot Firenza that was being mated to the running gear of a Cavalier 4x4 Turbo.
Hi everyone Simon Bowles was my Uncle and I have been intrigued in finding out about his Ford Escort Cosworth - Unfortunately he passed away on Monday suddenly, shocking the whole family and friends, If anyone knows about where the car is or if it is still on the road I would really appreciate it smile

I like the MK1 as a road car, much nicer lines and better decals.

But as a rally/track car, a mk2 with wide arches is hard to beat.
I agree with this, as standard mk1 looks much prettier. Wide arch, got to be the mk2 with tarmac arches. Wide, squat, aggressive. I’m not a fan of bubble arches mk1’s at all.

But let’s be honest, they’re all awesome hehe

Could be a real Twink as well, or rather the ID is for a real Twink.

Seller doesn't have a clue though....Group 4 arches smash

Interesting......

This VIN plate is a fake/re-stamp, not an original one......and that chassis number denotes an export car, not a UK one.
I'd guess this ID was originally an early Halewood made RS1600 for export, rather than a Twin Cam.

Only a museum car would have a VIN plate that clean - and the plate wouldn't be partially covering a hole.

Its not that, its the completely the wrong font style and type of stamping that Ford did in the factory which denotes it being a modern repro/fake.

Sjake absolutely gutted as I was trying to reach Simon but this is the only social media I have access to. My brother and I were both good friends with Simon for about 10 yrs but as with everything you lose touch. Just called my brother to give him the bad news. My brother Gav says he believes the car was sold to either a guy in Norway or Finland who got the ferry over and drove it back. I believe Gary is still at 3 M and has a LinkedIn profile. DM me as I have several photos of Si from our trips away with the cars.

Wow....someone really wanted that!

It wasn't going to be long before some of those low miles Escort Cossie's that have been squirreled away by some astute buyers 20 years ago+ started to appear at auctions after some of the RS500's started being brought out of hibernation and did silly money.

Love the advert saying genuine AVO RS1600, and then says BB49 Halewood build number. Err, so its not an AVO build then rofl

And if it was a BB49 Halewood car, why does it have an AVO build plate attached to the slam panel, which a BB49 coded would not have.
It also was never a RS1600 shell either as it does not have the bulkhead cut-out which all BDA built cars had.

And what is this RS1600 Owners Club?

rofl

Another utter muppet chancer seller.

Not sure how it could have entered any rally with that screen for starters. Looks like just a toughened not laminated screen!

That's been dragged in from Malta or wherever. Maybe it won an autocross in Zimbabwe?

It's a recently resurrected V5 looking for a car - the vendor's descrition has strong entertainment value though.
