Quick aside, were RS2000 MK2 available as flat front from the factory, or did they all have the nosecone fitted?
Not sure TBH, i suspect Aero might know A few Gp1 RS2000 Rally cars had the flat front, so maybe. As i mentioned about a million pages go our Mk 2 RS2 X pack was stolen, when repaired by Hendy's i asked for a flat front to be fitted, which was no problem.
The Droop snoot was popular with the Road Rally boys due to the excellent lights, we used to put 100w bulbs in the inner main beam units, that certainly lit up the lanes
A mate of mine way back then who had a Mk 1 RS2 before i did, then before he moved up to his Mk 2 RS2, had a gold 1600e with a 100w spot on the rear, the bugger would switch it on if he spotted you coming up behind him,,,,,,,,,,,,,, we had a LOT of fun in the early hours around the Gosport area!

I had a T reg black 1600 Sport with silver stripes in the early 90's - didn't have a vinyl roof though (although the P reg Yellow 1600 Sport I had in the 80's did have).
Mine was very similar although was completely standard when I got it (no chin or boot spoiler and standard seats rather than RS roll tops), only thing I added was an RS boot spoiler. Of all my Escorts it was probably the rustiest and only lasted a few years after I sold it.Edited by Ken P on Friday 9th October 22:56
Good to see a picture of one again as I can't find any of mine (VOT 650T), took mine to Goodwood a few times back then too.

Mine had the spoilers already fitted but I added the roll top Recaros - very comfy seats, unfortunately lost when some scrote nicked the car a few months later. I did get the car back but minus the Recaros, boot spoiler and carb.Good to see a picture of one again as I can't find any of mine (VOT 650T), took mine to Goodwood a few times back then too.
Fortunately I'd kept the original front seats, so they went back in. Had a spare Mexico carb from my road rally car at the time, and managed to get a boot spoiler from a mate for 25 quid (those were the days!). So back on the road it went for another year before being sold to fund a 205 XS.
I did see it kicking about in Southampton a few years later - the Sport stripes had been changed from silver to green. Looked quite good I though, Last tax expired in '95 apparently.

Goodwood, in the good old days, gravel paddock, no under cover areas, people are spoilt these days going there for some track use Edited by Ken P on Friday 9th October 22:56
Mind you, the original track surface was a fair bit grippier when wet as it is now!
Here's two RS2's and a RS16 at Goodwood in 1984
And me acting as 'left hand seat ballast' in my mate's pinto powered Mk.2 at Goodwood on a single venue stage rally back in 1987

Those 4 headlights of the RS2 droopsnoot really lit the road, eh? Especially with 100w bulbs in each lamp. Best lights I’ve had on a car, I reckon.
They were excellent weren’t they!We also got in the knack of cheap Perspex shields held in by the 2 screws for the bezels. Certainly saved the heartache ( and expense ) of a smashed Cibie from a flying stone flung up as you were chasing your friend down a fast minor route!
100w bulbs on a relay, Lumenition and cooling courtesy of Ken Lowe were de rigueur at the time for one

Haha! Yes, that was another thing you don’t see now
The big rear mounted spot on a dash flick switch for ...ahem...reversing in those dark corners

I suspect that you might have been running DKP on the same Goodwood Stages event in March 1987 that I posted above
Sold DKP around August 86 [ silly boy me !! ] and bought this little beauty, a VERY effective little car that at first was not modded a great deal.I was probably in this then when you were sat in your mates Mk 1

I also remember a bloke rallying a big arch Pantera with the big wing on the back at Goodwood a few times around that era..........?

John Mckerrell, later bought a 6R4, he was quite a character !
I remember him in the 6R4, the Pantera must have been just before I started going to Goodwood.IIRC Robin Herd also ran a 6R4 for a time in Leyton House colours, as well as his fab Group 4 Escort and the Darrian.
