There was an Aqua Blue on the early Escorts. I've seen a very similar colour (Ford) referred to as Glacier Blue but I don't think that's correct.

The 68-70 pale blue was Lagoon (this car is) and from late 1970 - the same time as Deluxe and Super became L, XL etc - Diamond blue took over. It was used on the Capri and Mark III Cortina as well but was never popular.

I love reading the laughable shaggy dog stories that the sellers concoct. The original car is long gone. Everyone knows it.

I wonder how many proper RS1600's are left? Original and largely unrestored cars with the factory engine, matching numbers and few owners.

What gets me, is that, at the time of posting, bidding is sitting at 10k... FFS!

Is that the going rate for an RS1600 V5 that the DVLA will never register to a new keeper?

There is so much activity with dead logbooks reappearing that DVLA are inspecting a lot of supposed cars before a new V5 is issued. The same with long untaxed cars for cherished number transfers. They use folk who are very clued up.

They will be laughing all the way back to Swansea with that thing.

DVLA have been massively cracking down on non-authentic classics, particularly AVO cars but affects other marques too by all accounts.

Attempts to register cars that have been off the road for a while, particularly due to a change of keeper (although anecdotally I've heard of checks simply on a change of address by the current owners) are increasingly resulting in requests for detailed photos of the vehicle etc.

Whilst there's undoubtedly scare-mongering going on on social media, I've heard from good sources that this is going on. Not first hand experience though I do admit.

Rigorous checks are going on for sure even for a simple address change in some cases.

But a friend of mine recently applied for his old log book to a Mex that he left rotting 40 years ago.


I guess in this RS1600 case someone could build a car then apply for change if keeper then at least there’s a car to inspect

That just might be the original shell......there's a few details to indicate it might be.

Although, it doesn't have any gussets on the front chassis leg/bulkhead - which I would have thought a Grp.6 spec Boreham shell would have had at the time...?

Not sure when Boreham first started to use Mo Gomm for shell prep, I know GMD prepared the special shells for the '70 World Cup Rally, but whether he was involved before that in '69 I'm not sure.
Would need Dave Watkins to have a careful look over this shell.

It would be one of the very few original shell ex-works cars left if it could be confirmed it is the original shell.

Last taxed 81 so 11 years of use with various owners, I was thinking unlikely but if it is ! Very rare. Suppose seam brazing would be a give away for a Gomm shell but know nothing about Boreham's techniques. I've sent it to a mate who's very much an anorak but not in to the actual build detail.
Might Clark & Simpson have been involved ?
Those London/Mexico shells are a work of art, I was fortunate to have a good look around 47H

Wow again, That looks so bad it might just be the real deal, i would say 95% it is! I do hope the floor etc is partially salvageable.
Turreted, Atlas etc Those Early works Escorts were very basic in comparison to what they became.

Wonder why the cage, which i suspect was just a 6 point bolt in jobby, has been removed??
