Girl in my year at school got some inheritance when she turned 18 and bought herself a new Mini British Open Special edition. That appears to be the first mini fitted with one from the factory

Shezbo, to try and answer your question...

I had a Webasto roof fitted in 2012 by Peter Harvey. He was trading from his house as Peter Harvey Sunroofs, 1 Stonar Gardens, Sandwich, CT13 9LJ.

At the time, the official Webasto distributor had bought the franchise but wasn't really interested and couldn't fit the roofs! All roads led to Peter, who seemed to be the only person in the UK who really knew what he was doing. He drove from Sandwich to Northamptonshire to fit the roof for me and charge me just over £1800.

The car had had a Webasto fitted by the importer. By the time I bought the car, the roof had long gone, but the hole with its ash frame was still intact.

He did a great job, but wasn't the easiest person to deal with. I suspected he might have retired, but I've just Googled him and he was still active in 2018 and is still listed in some directories..

Phone: 01304 614412
Email: peterharveysunroofs@tiscali.co.uk

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the info - appreciated.

I need a Tudor Webasto sunroof. I was all booked in to the Trimming Centre in Lewes before Christmas but the poor chap died and the business has closed down. The other older chap, Peter Harvey Sunroofs has retired and will not kneel down anymore with his new hips / knees. Looks like game over unless someone knows of anyone buying the ONLY folding Webasto roof franchise / manufacture, seemed he had customers from all over the globe to buy kit-form folding sunroofs.

That is a shame. As far as I know The Trimming Centre bought the Webasto business from R&S Coachworks some years ago and that included spares and the rights to continue manufacture. The Trimming Centre also fitted them. Do you know if The Trimming Centre is still selling the Webasto parts/kits or have they ceased completely? Do you have a POC for The Trimming Centre?

The tudorwebastosunroofs.com link on their website goes to R&S Coachbuilts, and you end up in a loop.

So looks like that's the end of the road.

Yes, I read that but The Trimming Centre website says "We do have another website based solely for Tudor Webasto sunroofs this can be found here - www.tudorwebastosunroofs.com" Its not exactly clear what that is implying, so I am wondering if there is anyone else at the Trimming Centre now just solely focused on the Webasto parts and kit business.

Yes, I read that message and followed the round robin websites that take you back to the same CLOSED notice. Hope someone takes on the World wide business, if anyone hears it is "up and running again" please let me know,

A bit of googling and there are sunroof sites in the USA and in Australia, with notices such as this one from an Aussie sunroof website.....

If so, there is probably little chance of anyone else taking up a franchise, that simply might not exist anymore. Looks like the folding fabric sunroof is dead in terms of new installs...?

I’m a bit intrigued what the situation is here for replacement Tudor Webasto parts.
As I mentioned in a previous post I needed a replacement wood frame for the Tudor Webasto folding sunroof in a Reliant Scimitar I owned. I contacted RS Coachworks at the time who appeared to hold the U.K. business (franchise?). However, they told me they had just retired and sold the business including all material to The Trimming Centre. When I contacted the Trimming Centre about a replacement frame they said they were still going through an inventory of parts but did eventually sell me a frame and shipped it to me in the US as a kit of parts.
So, I’m wondering what has happened to all those parts, who made/makes them and if they were made then surely drawings and templates and tooling exists somewhere?
Maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree. ????

With the correct dimensions and some knowhow it would not be hard to duplicate, if the parts were removed from the vehicle they could be scanned, any errors corrected and the duplicated with some unsophisticated CNC machinery. many of the other parts would not be too difficult (from my memory of my old one) and infact would not be too hard to do if someone had the inclination and time (and the old owners were not against this. It was a relatively simple construction so would be ideal for low tech duplication at small volumes.

Hello, Not so sure Aussie Dave, I have a collection of Webasto roof parts and the frame alone looks daunting. From the sliding feet to the hooped bars on the framework then the closing handle and locator, not to mention the special curved shaped wooden hardwood frame and the intricate vinyl top plus the integral headlining, then the WIRES down both sides to tension the frame. Not to mention cutting the hole in your classic car roof / headlining. Getting it all to sit flush with your roof would prove difficult, and it all depends on the curvature of each classic car roof shape and size required that you are dealing with. Not a weekend job.

The profiling is not too difficult, just need to make an initial template for the vehicle type. You would find that a good carpenter or boatbuilder would be able to do the frames. A simple selection could then be created to cover most models.any of the other parts again not too complex. With the use of 3D printing and then simple moulding patterns thealking of once very expensive moulings can now be relatively inexpensive
On our case we reduced it to 2pc of our older costs. Likewise simple CNC is ideal for this kind of work and this allows the tradesperson to have much already to hand. A simple And inexpensive laser would even duplicate old alloy plaques. We don't do car work but do this kind of stuff all the time.

I have a customer who wants one of these fitting to his alfasud sprint. We also came to the conclusion that new items were unavailable. They are however available on the other side of the pond. We will end up buying one from Canada and I.ll fit it for him.

So, if someone does want to fit one to there car, you can get one that although isn't a webasto, looks very similar

My new Defender on order is having a sliding fabric sunroof as a factory option

We found at any speed it didn’t suffer with the buffering you sometimes get with tilt slide roofs.

I bet you wouldn't be able to though....given Webasto AG in Germany announced 2 years ago that they were ending production of all types of aftermarket sunroofs.
