Hungarian GP... So that would explain the choice of a Tatra.

Before F1 got their act together, they would just use any bog standard car, which was usually representative of their country, Italy had their Alfa’s... we used a Cavalier. rolleyes

On the contrary, it was the Italians who used a Cavalier (well an Opel Vectra) at the fateful 1994 San Marino GP at Imola.

In the inquest it was held that the Vectra/ Cavalier was too slow and causing the F1 car tyres to cool down too much which may have contributed towards Senna’s fatal crash.

After that, the proper official F1 safety cars were introduced.

Well he was a politician laugh I hadn't a clue what it was about, my interests revolving around Corgi, Dinky & Scalextric then.
Searching for that sticker I saw something about him owning a prototype Cooper S - https://www.handh.co.uk/news-item/rare-mini-once-o...
Nowt's new

The Tatra 623 was far from bog standard - a highly tuned specialist race support version of the Czechoslovakian Tatra 613 saloon.

If you look at the museum photos of the Tatra safety car the names of the driver and Co-driver are printed on the front wing along with their blood groups - sending out the wrong message ??

In one of the Sid Watkins books he mentions being in some souped up American V8 which was in danger of dicing with the back markers at one point on the opening lap of a US race!

Maybe it should have silhouettes of all the racing drivers run over, like a fighter plane!

Prior to Mercedes getting the safety car gig in 1997, there have been some eclectic motors being used

Canada '73

Monaco '76

Monaco 81 - 83

Brazil '83

San Marino '94

Japan '84

Belgium '95

Argentina '96

The aforementioned Tatra was a medical car, rather than a safety car. Not sure what the safety car was there then

Wouldn’t be my first choice...looks like a Williams though. scratchchin

Wiki: Clio was used for the ‘96 Argentinian GP... a Fiat Tempra 16V (Brazil) & the Honda Prelude (Japan) had also been used for GP’s a few years previously.

Remember Silverstone...beyond belief. irked

Ahh yes, ran across the Hangar Straight just as Murray went apoplectic and ITV went to a break.

What was he protesting about again?
