The best option is actually to go straight into Brighton as the route past Falmer stadium that drops you into the marina is an absolute nightmare due to the Marina traffic lights only letting a couple of cars through at a time. This results in a solid queue of traffic that backs up all the way to the stadium which takes hours to escape from.

The fact that Brighton council have completely screwed the roads up in the rest of the city is another matter altogether. Seems to get worse every time I go to Brighton these days punch
Definitely avoid the Falmer turn-off . I accidentally got caught there once when there was a Smart Car rally.

And watch out for Bus Gates too!!!

So this year could have been the last original run as the organisers have confirmed it's become too difficult to organise, for various reasons including ULEZ zones, insurance, other costs, parking access, etc, in 2024.

Organisers Facebook page said:
We hope you all enjoyed this years London to Brighton Mini Run. Putting on this event has become increasingly challenging, with spiralling costs, red tape, reduced parking at Brighton and numerous other restrictions, before we even get to the possible impact of ULEZ in both London and Brighton. After the post event meeting and lengthy discussions the Committee have come to the difficult decision that there will not be a London to Brighton Mini Run next year.

Indeed. No more because of ULEZ, cost of hiring the venue in London, the cost of hiring Madeira drive (and much less space available there too now), insurances etc. The VW equivalent has also stopped.

Shame.

Still, bet the green party council in Brighton are delighted.

There isn't a ULEZ in Brighton, there's a proposal for one but it's only for the very central shopping area so wouldn't affect the route and it's mostly only buses and taxis allowed anyway.

Brighton traffic is terrible on normal summer Sundays and even worse when there's something like Mini run so irrespective of other problems L-B isn't a good run to do - Veteran run gets away with it because it's in November when there aren't loads of tourists.

Obviously I was referring to ULEZ in London.

Yes, you can start outside the ULEZ but Epsom to Brighton isn't really the "London to Brighton" is it?

Brighton traffic has been terrible for years, but it is deliberately being made worse year on year by the local council who are absolutely anti-car. 20mph speed limits and "traffic calming" everywhere. The irony being that all this traffic calming is clogging the roads and causing more pollution, as well as astronomical parking charges (and charges for hiring Madeira Drive)

Reductions in space available on Maderia Drive also limits how many cars can get in there at the other end.

Gutted that the L2B mini run is ending. I don't blame the organisers, I blame the anti-car politicians at either end of it.

Aside from getting a load of the same make/model together for a drive, what's the appeal of London-to-Brighton? Driving to/through either is a chore at the best of times, and seeing as cars are meant to be driven i'd have thought going somewhere with some decent roads to drive might have been preferrable.
