A hotted-up Anglia for me, please.

I won't do it, but I like the fact that it still intrigues me.

The spec I can still reel off for you: Classic struts and discs, 5 1/2 Js, 1650 pushrod - or a Lotus Twin Cam! - with a bullet box from a 2000E.

I even enjoyed typing the words.

Marvellous.

Holbay engined Hillman Hunter.
Was a smart classic 3 box car design and a nice drive even in standard 1500 Minx spec.

Also wish i still had my FD Ventora, 4 speed manual with overdrive which for some reason worked on all gears.

One car i watched that had a profound influence on me was at the Guards Intl Saloon car race at Brands, circa 1969/70 i'd have been 14 at the time with my father, Supercharged BMW2002 which just about trounced everything elese there, but instead of a high revving loud exhaust racket it whistled past almost silently in comparison.

A Capri, even though I know they'd be terrible. Although given the amounts even ropey ones go for these days I wish I'd done it earlier.

Mk4 Escort RS Turbo, or failing that an XR3i Cabriolet hehe

Probably don't fit into the "attainable" category these days though...

Vauxhall Nova GSi, a Cavalier Turbo or a Senator 3.0CD 24v

The former two standard and un-Barried, obviously.

Renault 5 turbo 2. I had one in the mid eighties, awful seats [ replaced ] engine characterful but no overly powerful but the handling and ride were, back then, from another planet, it steered Very well to.
My now 37 year old 6,4" son was carried in his carry cot strapped down on the rear parcel shelf a few times, probably why he has no interest in cars wink

Some quite mundane choices on here - surprised.

If I could have anything "unattainable" from my youth I'd have a Porsche 959, still top of my "only car I'd ever need / useable everyday all year round" list.

Surely something that is attainable now is something that was fairly mundane when new?

I wouldn't mind my old Esprit back, although I wasn't exactly a youth at the time. Many memorable trips at speeds I wouldn't repeat today.

I was going to say an E30 BMW 325i Sport M-Tech II, but they're silly money now. In terms of pure numbers I can afford one, to fulfil the "attainable" criteria, but I wouldn't pay it.
