How about a 'period' classics pictures thread
Discussion
In the absence of car pictures while I am searching, I came across some interesting things you might like.
in 1946 my parents got married. They didn't have a car then but they hired 3 for their wedding, the receipt:
Two years later dad [aged 24] bought his first car a 1933 Austin 7 reg: OJ 7630 for £61. Remember then it was just an old second hand car:
He had several motors after that but I have found a receipt for his Armstrong Siddeley Saphire Auto reg: RWD 828 in 1962 for £250:

Found a photo of my Dad's old XJ6 4.2. It was taken about 1980-81 I think. When he first got it was silver with dark blue leather. Can't remember why he had it resprayed but I preferred the silver. Was a nice car, also needed a replacement engine- liners?
Was eventually px'ed for a 1981 Trans Am Special Edition

Quite possibly the infamous AED wrecked the engine and necessitated a replacement. Was eventually px'ed for a 1981 Trans Am Special Edition

Sorry, not sure what AED is?
Automatic Enrichment Device. Like most automatic chokes it sort of works, but you're better off with a manual conversion.Loose_Cannon said:

I thought we had a contender for the "another what car?" thread there for a minute. Still, just goes to show how many strange and unusual things were being built and makes it even more likely it might turn out to be a one-off. Unless the above is something really famous and I've just destroyed what little car-cred I might once have had. This one looks to be one of the three used in Doppelganger (I don't think this one made it to UFO), I think it was unearthed recently and now owned by Gerry Anderson's son!
The other 2 exist in perilous states of dilapidation with "enthusiasts" who would rather they rotted than sell them.
Two from me. Dads 1986 Renault Savanna. Bought new, he ideally wanted an Espace but couldn't then stretch to one, so as there were five of us (kids) this is what it had to be.
Secondly my Saxo VTR that I bought in my early 20's new, pictured here days after I picked it up in 2002. Most of them that you see nowadays may be sound system bangers but back in 2002 I was really proud of it. A then rare colour too, I had a months wait as the only Wicked Red one they could find when I bought it was sat at Calais! Sadly it died in I recall 2012 according to the DVLA website when I checked. Oh, and the white splodge on the bonnet is photo damage, not the worlds largest pigeon dumping its load
You're quite correct. 1302 and S Super Beetles had McPherson struts, but a flat screen.
I am partial to a nice factory spec Beetle. Whilst we'd all live a split or oval screen one, a nice Super Beetle is fine - they were a lot better to drive than the torsion bar ones.
I had a 1956 oval window car 33 years ago. Gave it away as well.

^That Beetle is still going! Well, on SORN but MOT's in the last few months.
It's a 1303S isn't it?
Wow! I will tell him. It's nice as his father ( who took that pic of the beetle ) passed away this week, and they were going trough old photos and found it. They used to take that beetle every year from Croydon to the south of France, 4-up with a trailer full of baked beans and tinned supilis!!It's a 1303S isn't it?
