This picture was described as :"Hinckley petrol station having delivery in fuel shortage. Police in attendance." It does make me laugh. Look at the spoiler on the Herald?:
Are those mk I Polos in the background?
Currently a Mitsubishi garage but think it was VW until maybe late nineties / early noughties.

Stockport, possibly late Seventies or early Eighties ?

The blue Carlton is on a V-suffix, so that means at least 1979. The Saab alongside it looks like it might be newer, but I don't really know Saabs, so maybe not. But at least 79.
Yep, the Saab is a 900, so again, '79-onwards.

So, with a V-plate being Aug 1st 79, and it looking like summer, I'd say photo was taken no earlier than spring/summer of 1980..?

Thought I'd explained it enough in my post....

I was inferring that for it to be summer 79, the Vauxhall and Saab would be brand new & a few weeks old (4-6 weeks at most) to be V-plate, if late summer, so, while entirely possible, I'm suggesting it's more likely to be taken in spring/summer 1980 at the earliest.

There's a good chance our company in Aston supplied the Bradford when new.

There's a reference to the will of a Mr Baines of this garage, in Gainsborough, but it's on Genes Reunited and I haven't got a login. Have a look here, also shows your photo - http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/baines,old
