Its incredible to think most new cars back then only lasted 12 years before being scrapped due to rust
That's nothing. BMW's back then lasted about 10-12 years, Alfas five or six - I had a 1978 Sud Ti for spares (SBL738S) that was last taxed in 1984 due to terminal rot. Scrap at six years old. That's like an 11 plate car being rotten.
Ten years was the life of a car then but there were exceptions; Minis were so popular used and so easy to patch up that the majority seemed to last 15 years before being binned off.
Today, scrapyards are full of ten/eleven year old Ford, French and Vauxhall rubbish, loads of 56/07 plate 206's, Mondeos, Vectra C's and ste like that. It's not rotten , but tired, worn out and as desirable as herpes.
Mk5 2.0 GL....Bought it off my boss who was part ex-ing for an Audi Quattro Coupe and the dealer only offered him £1000, so I snapped it up. Sold it for £1500 and bought the Fiat from the boss of my then girlfriend, Jackie (who else!), it was mint. Sold the Fiat to my mate Jeff Dyer....I think he only bought it because if the plate!
I have no idea why I put white tape over the headlights so don't ask!

^ Meadow Green iirc - my Dad had a 2.3GL auto on a W plate in 1980/81 which was a hoot to drive in slippery weather.
Dropped it off for a service once (Stormont) and after collecting it barely anything electric worked - they'd removed many fuses but couldn't say why! Stormont were once the largest Ford dealership in Europe if their advertising was to be believed.

Do you remember anything about that? Whoever bought mine seemed to have just about scraped enough together to get the quattro version, as it didn't have ABS or even tinted glass.Lordbenny said:

I think that was a thing at one point - I seem to recall you could buy clip-on headlamp covers that had lines already on them.laters said:
I have been scanning a few bits of old film I found in a drawer in garage & came across these two photos that are motoring related.
First is my dad driving a van of some type and second I am not sure why we have a photo of the truck.
Looks like a Guy of some kind, Vixen, Otter or perhaps Wolf.First is my dad driving a van of some type and second I am not sure why we have a photo of the truck.

The photos of the Montreal production line reminded me of this.
It's the old man's old friend Jim Russell, after he'd retired from racing and was running his Mercedes/Alfa/Vauxhall dealership in North Norfolk. This is him handing over the 1st Montreal sold in Norfolk. If you look carefully, it has an 'AH' registration.
Not from a personal collection - It can be found on the internet from an article about Jim's life - but interesting nonetheless

Jade green! We had a '77 Capri the same colour.Dropped it off for a service once (Stormont) and after collecting it barely anything electric worked - they'd removed many fuses but couldn't say why! Stormont were once the largest Ford dealership in Europe if their advertising was to be believed.
Edit: It's Nova green, virtually identical.

A sailing club, probably somewhere in the Derby/Nottingham area, picture from the early 1960’s.
Some interesting old motors – my late father’s red Aston DB2 by the building.
No sure what lurks under the tarpaulin – Triumph Razor Edge?
Austin or Rover next to it?
Note the other Aston (DB Mk3?) with the boat on the roof (!).
