Lovely set of photos Dapster... I'd say that is Walter in the 1981 pic, and don't those opened up 917s look fragile..?

1965. My Dad had just sold our Austin A40 for a brand spanking new Singer Chamois.
Any pictures of the A40? wink

Once I got a driving licence, he decided he wanted a new Austin Maxi.
or the Maxi? wink

Here's a period pic of the A40 I still own, along with a couple of Maxis.

Been searching for pics but sadly no. Which is surprising, thought I would have. Will keep looking.

However, in response to TR4man above, sad or not, I can roll the A40 reg off without thinking (not the later Maxi's though).

The reg was 164 FFC.

1st 2 look like Marlborough high street. Pics from 1984 I'm guessing (the blue Sierra is a B reg) and I can't see anything much newer. The BMW E28 facing away from us has a registration like "WTC 1" or similar. Nice 944. The burgundy estate in front of the green winnebago thing is Renault 18 I think.

The seaside is earlier I think. There is a new "aerodynamic" Audi 100 C3 facing away from us in the row the blue Ascona is turning into which would make it 1982 or later. I can't see anything much later.

The bottom picture is York, next to the Coppergate Centre. This opened around 1983/84 with the oh so posh Fenwicks on view.

I remember my dad's Renault 18 handbrake failing there and him explaining about why he had to park it in gear.

Bloody hell. You have dangerously exotic neighbours. That's a Peugeot 504 next to the caravan isn't it? They'll be eating salami for tea rather than spam.
Had, rather than have. Photo was from early 80s. wink

Yep, it was fun changing the spark plugs on the Pug. smile

Don't remember the 504 being particularly rare back then.

One sign in 1979. 5 additional signs in 2012. Modern cars also have a voice telling you which way to turn.

Yes I believe so H, and the WR gantry from the other end of the station is now up on the road close to the overbridge.

Likely from the Mk2 Cortina clearly in view. Everything else is clearly earlier, and given the Mk2 was released in Oct '66, it could even be late '66 or early '67.
