On the subject of Interceptors, here's Michael Rimmer's.

Played by Peter Cook, The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer is a great flick if you haven't seen it. smile

Dean Street, London in 1966, anyone know what the car is...? Apparently the reg' number on the Merc is now on a Lexus...

Are there any students of David Ogle in the house?

Further on the subject of Interceptors, I've been catching the re-runs of "The Protectors" being shown late at night on ITV4 during the week.

Yep, caught them all again recently.

Why does Harry's Jensen sound like a 1600 Cortina though? hehe

Definitely Le Mans.

That's the back streets of La Chartre Sur Loir smile
Porsche's adopted home near La Sarthe, Rue du 8 Mai in Teloché.

These pig ugly devices crop up regularly on "WTF is it?" type posts. It's a Mean Sonora, a Belgian kit car I think, made between 1966-1971;

For some reason they warranted articles in some worthy design journals of the time like Style Auto, goodness knows why, I can't think of any car that is uglier.

It almost looks as though it was a 4x4.

I'd guess it has none of its mechanicals installed - the ride height of the one with the dolly birds in is a lot more reasonable. But the thing does look like a design mule rather than a production model. Also presume it's a removable targa top, interesting that the first photo has sidescreens whereas the second looks like wind-up windows.

It doesn't look as though the windows would wind down very far which might explain the sliding solution. The Dean Street car is missing its XJS-type buttresses behind the rear window.

I can think of about 1000 kit cars that are better looking. The distinctly DIY approach to styling makes me think of the Hensen M30, mind you even that car looks like a 1960s Aston Martin by comparison to the Sonora.

And another car that displays the same complete lack of professional input - and has you scratching your head as to why more than a single example was made - the Argyle Turbo

Many apologies for the thread divergence, but sometimes when discussing classic cars the sentiment about beauty being in the eye of the beholder gets stretched a bit. Unless its the eye of Sauron gazing at Mordor.

A couple more period shots, late '60s / early '70s maybe... Peugeot P70, a couple of Alfa Berlinettas and a Mk2 Cooper / Cooper S.... no idea what the tow car is though...

All a long way from Cayennes and Pecan Diesels. When Porsche was hardcore.

And are the couple in the middle of shot leaning on the bonnet of a red XJ-C with an Everflex roof?

^^ I'd say yes, an XJ-C. What about the yellow car a few to the left of it...? SD1 maybe..?

Regent Street 1975...

Hillside Gardens, Highgate late '60s...
