1965 or maybe even 1966, as that's a 427 in the foreground with the 'sunburst' rims.

Phil Hill's 250LM looks like a 250GTO (1964) as it is unofficially known.

Thanks both - looking at Phil's car I see what you mean nicanary, it was the narrow width of the roof made me think LM more than anything. Just realised it's a left hooker too, I think all if not most of the LMs were RHD.

Still the best thread on Pistonheads. Trying to get the FIL to get his slides from his 50s trip around America out so I can upload a few pics.

Looks like a CB radio aerial on the 250SWB...as you say, a window on another world!

CB aerial, looks like taken in USA in the 70's................just wondering if that's taken prior to or after end of one of the original Brock Yates run Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Races smile

Could be - looks like there might be some kind of rally plaque sticking above the rear number plate housing.

1966.... is that an NSU behind the Cobra...?

Long Beach Drug Store in the background, so less than 10 minutes from the Queen Mary if the photo was taken after '67

I was not feeling well last night so sat down to watch a bit of classic TV. The 1st episode of Randall & Hopkirk deceased on True Entertainment
http://www.radiotimes.com/tv-programme/e/f6m5v5/ra...

I was going to say lots of classic cars but actually the streets were almost empty. Not sure how they got on back in those days following a villain when there is only one other car to be seen anywhere. And finally a room in a london "Hotel" 2 quid a night cash in advance.

I suppose motorsport images are easy pickings as there's a vast archive of stuff out there, but I can't resist posting these, some of them have a very casual air about them... it really is like looking in on another world...

Spa, 1965...

Possibly Goodwood...

Brands Hatch, 1966...

Daytona, 1966...

1966, presumably not far from Slough...?

Sebring, 1966...

Oulton Park in 1968 with Jo Bonnier and Lola T70...

Phil Hill at home with his 250LM...

Alpine 110s galore...

1964... Goodwood maybe...?

Ford Thames van behind...?

Somewhere in California c.1964...
Didn't Piers Courage's family own LEC?

Got that wrong. It was Courage brewing they owned. Whose family owned LEC? David Purley?

No they owned Courage, the brewers.

David Purley’s family owned Lec.

Brave man. Got the George medal for his efforts trying to save Robin Williamson. A very harrowing clip to watch.

Agreed about that clip, I still get very angry when it is shown, the circuits in those days were a total disgrace with regards to safety
precautions .BTW it was Roger Williamson.

I didn't do too well there,did I?
Anyway, in the pic next to the Cobra is a LEC van. That was what started me on that catalogue of errors. Purley used to race a Cobra. So it would be a fair assumption that the Cobra was his.

Yep, the Longford Engineering Company. Based in Bognor Regis and now long gone to replaced by a Sainsburys super store!

And I think the Cobra is the one raced by Paul Taft.
