say hello from me and tell she's got a great pair of pins! hehe
laugh Will do.

She's back, and this time with their Sunbeam Rapier. They had some nice cars back then, unlike my Dad, who never had anything worth photographing. Unless you like tatty Moggy Travellers or Maxis. Sheesh.

Was she a 'fast' lady!
That's a H120 isn't it, Holbay version had Rostyle wheels? My neighbour had one new back in the early 70s and we called him 'Chammy' as he was always polishing it while I was underneath my 'Chammy' Imp!

Heh, not sure how to answer that. hehe She did drive like a loony by all accounts though. I wasn't born until 73, so these pics are all before my time.

I don't know what version it was, all my uncle told me was that it had twin webers and would do 120 (allegedly!), but didn't all the Rapiers have twin webers?

Well, I've trawled through all the family photos I have, and this is the only other one with a car in it. My mum and nan with my uncle's Super Snipe. I may have posted this on here before, although it would have been a long time ago.

I loved those rapiers...thought they were the coolest thing ever....until the Doctor at the top of our street got a lotus elan. You know how fickle 8 yearolds can be ! hehe

Nope, only the H120 with the Holbay engine had the twin Webers. Same engine as in the Hunter GLS.

The speedo probably showed 120 flat out, as they were far from accurate at top end wink it was no where near that in reality, just over the ton was the actual real top speed.

The Stratos belonged to Bruno Ferrari , sadly no longer with us .................
I never knew that.
I've just looked him up and found an article stating he wrote the Stratos off not far from where I took the pictures. Also he had a 131 Abarth which I took a picture of as well. I'll try and find that one and post here.
This is the 131 Abarth that was there at the same time

Not been taxed since 1985 with that number plate. Wonder if its still around?

I had this back in the 80s (from 83 to 85 IIRC).

Wasn't that quick, but probably the most chuckable car I've ever had!

Shame I don't have it now! frown

Sorry for the picture quality BTW - it's a scan of a photo.

Very nice. Have you got some "Top Kwality" £9.99 Saisho or Pye rear shelf speakers from Halfords on there? Just the thing for pumping out a bit of The Jam or Undertones to seduce the local wildlife. There's a Renault 14 sneaking into shot as well!

his racing number was 13 ..............ironically the FB 13 number plate was taken and never returned in a disputed deal.......

Although Dads main passion has always been British bikes, he also used to be into photography. Here's a few from around Whitstable harbour in the late 60s.
Westland Trader and Western Producer were built for a dutch shipping company in the early 1960s; the Trader sank in Lyme Bay in 1974 and the Producer is in the Bristol channel area waiting for some mug to buy her.

Riley 1.5/Wolseley 1500 on the far side of the Humber - and a Hillman Minx beyond that, with a Ford E93A at the front ?

Yep, top quality specials from Halfords. Spot on with the The Jam & Undertones, plus the Stranglers, etc.

The car was parked outside my girlfriend's parents house in that shot and her brother took the picture, which is why I've only got a print rather than the negative.

You mentioning Halfords.....For the older amongst us, here is a link to a 1965 Halfords catalogue. Did we really buy some of this junk?

My votes for the worst accessories:
No:9...I remember buying one for my HA viva, thinking "Wow I look and sound cool!" How wrong can you be?

No:8.. De rigour if you had to park on the road overnight...And your battery still went flat

No:7.. Great for the first few days, then they fell off or just went horrible:

No:6.. Just why?

No:5.. These were fine for protecting other cars. Your door soon discoloured and rust started.

No:4.. I used to look at these in other cars and wondered what was the purpose of these?

No:3.. Just cheaper versions of No4

No:2.. I had these on several cars. I don't think I ever saw anything in them. Especially when they vibrated.

No:1... You guessed it the stupid stick on ashtray. I used one once. I had to make a quick move on the steering wheel and knocked a just extinguished fag into my lap. A few seconds later it burned through my trousers and stung the family jewels. I ended up on the verge with my heart in my mouth!
