Unless you like tatty Moggy Travellers or Maxis.
Nothing wrong with a good Maxi. Here's my latest purchase. and my mother's new one (taken in the early 80s) along with Dad's Cortina and my A40!

She's back, and this time with their Sunbeam Rapier. They had some nice cars back then, unlike my Dad, who never had anything worth photographing. Unless you like tatty Moggy Travellers or Maxis.
In the pics your Auntie and Uncle dont seem to have any kids, unlike your poor dad which probably made the difference between a Rapier and Maxi!Loose_Cannon said:

You are correct, although my dad didn't have any kids either when my uncle had the Rapier. The real difference is my dad hates cars, they are a means of transportation to him, nothing more. To quote him, "I don't care what it looks like as long as the wheels go round". Edited by LeighW on Thursday 10th May 23:48

He would be the old type with the underseal line up to the windows then?
Yep, that's about it. Nowadays it goes like this: Buy car, run it with the minimum outlay possible until it dies, pester son to find a replacement. Rinse and repeat. Take his current car for example. He wanted a manual V6 Omega to replace the last one he killed - these are now thin on the ground. I found him a nice 2.6 Elite with leather, Bose etc, took him on a 380 mile round trip(!) to buy it. After a short while he reversed out of a parking space at the supermarket, not noticing someone behind him was doing the same. Bang. Broken rear light, dented rear panel, broken bumper. I sourced him a new light and bumper in the correct colour complete with parking sensors (he evidently ignores these though!). I offered to get it repaired for him, as I have friends that work in the trade, so it would have been cheap. Nope. He smacked the dent out with a piece of wood and a hammer, threw some filler on it and sprayed it with a rattle can - with his eyes closed by the look of it.
Brake dust on the alloys? Wire wool will get that off. Oil leaking? Top it up. You get the gist.
It looked like this when purchased. It does not look like this now.
Sorry - wandering off topic.

Well, you asked for it. Here's my dad's - a 1750HL no less, complete with twin SUs, and my dad trying to botch fix something on it. I can only apologise for the colour of the garage doors...

I thought it might have been Jenks' Motorsport article from December '66 but I've had a shuftie at the Brooklands road test book and it appears to be an unused shot from Dennis Cipnic's six page spread in the November '66 issue of Car Life. It is the very same car as tested (and thoroughly enjoyed) by our man Jenks though
one of his best articles... I can still recall the picture of him standing by the car telling us that it was one the few [if not only?] cars he was happy to be photographed next to ...... due to its 40 inches...and his.. urm... small stature [ideal for a sidecar passenger though] Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
