Aylesbury early 80's. I can see a 264 and a pre-facelift GTV amongst the others, plus what might be a Mitsubishi Colt Celeste against the wall next to the Volvo.

Royal Ascot 1963

Aston Villa squad 1983

There's a Volvo 244, the car by the wall is a Colt Celeste and there's an AlfaSud and an ADO16 in the 1st picture.

With a Dolomite and a MK3 Cortina estate, that Royal Ascot is more likely 1973 than '63

The Volvo is the posher 6cyl 264 not the 244 - larger rear lights and more chrome.

And yes, Ascot is indeed '73.

Sorry but it's not. The 200 series had the same size lights for both the 244 and 264 and it doesn't have enough chrome for a 264 - that would have had chrome embellishers around the outside of the wheels and chrome surrounds to the door handles. Also, solid Bordeaux red was never a colour option for the 260 line; it was only available for the 240s

I stand corrected regarding the colour and the chrome so agree it's a 244, but the 264 did have bigger lights though.

A picture from the paddock at Oulton Park in the eighties. No prizes for guessing which cars I was taking a photo of.

Nice - the S3 XJ looks a little out of place (but very swanky) and I wonder if of any of those Transit variants are still around, none I'll wager.

Three of those aTransits are a VW type 2 a BL Sherpa and a Bedford CF.
Or were you referring to just the Transits?

I think the early ones look great, it had big boots to fill after the Miura.
They ruined it later with spoilers air ducts and big arches, which although necessary to keep it stuck to the road, they somewhat ruined the clean lines and pure futurist look. Lamborghini were always about outrageous design, something that everyone does these days but back then they made Ferrari look positively bland.

The more i think about it,I think that one must be broken down (it is after all, a 1970s supercar) I cant imagine the Swiss tolerating that sort of behaviour for very long. I think the spectators are probably discussing how inconsiderate the owner is rather than 'oh my what a stunning car'

I guess that's true. Growing up through the end of the '50s and into the '60s I suppose I never 'got' the angular, outrageous designs of Lamborghini. At the time I would have taken an E-Type over any Ferrari or Lambo although I do have a soft spot for the Dino. biggrin
