£2m or £3m maybe, given its rarity, possibly more...? Only seven road going MkIIIs were built.

I assume 1014 is back row, right.
Actually it's humble pie time - I posted the wrong picture thinking Noel's car was one of those seven, it isn't, here's another shot of the same batch with their correct chassis numbers and I misdescribed them as MkIIIs when they're road going MkIs, the MkIIIs had different lights and a longer tail with a luggage compartment...

I give up! Perhaps I should just start a gratuitous GT40 thread, fill it with the thousands of photos I've nicked, begged, borrowed and purloined and have done with it..... or perhaps not!

(Just checked one of the bibles, apparently thirty three of the production MkIs within the P1000 to P1086 range of chassis numbers were built to road going spec.)

And here's the same spot today where that photo was taken.

I think that sounds like a great idea! biggrin

It was Noel's car that I first saw on TV, when he drive it around a racetrack (Swap Shop, possibly). Fell in love with them then, and have quite a few GT40 books now, including a rare 1960s Ford vs Ferrari book that I got signed by GT40 and Ferrari driver David Piper.

There are many no go areas in threads these days thank goodness we still have the old favourites to spend time on. This is definitely one of my favourite threads on PH.

I seem to recall him saying that he used to annoy the security guard on the gate of BBC TV centre, as he could drive the GT40 straight through under the barrier on the gate without stopping biggrin

Without yank muscle this car would not be what it is thankfully biggrin you can keep your Italian stuff well apart from De-Tomaso for the same reason as the 40 wink the only fully focused compromising sports car I would ever want the GT40

The irony there being that the GT40 influenced Paulo Stanzani and Gianpaulo Dallara at Lamborghini to build the prototype Miura chassis in a quiet corner of the factory, in their own time!

Nice period shot...

I know it probably a generational thing but you can you imagine a life without being able to appreciate Cars like the GT 40, in 30 years time will people even remember the noise and smell of these incredible machines

In the case of the GT40, a large number of the genuine articles are still active and I'd like to think still could be long into the future. We can but hope anyway.

A golden oldie, Leightonstone High Road in the late '70s...
