I think the petrol station pic is 1979 when there was a petrol shortage resulting from the price of Iranian oil doubling overnight. Quite how that caused a shortage I don't know, but I do remember a massive 'crisis' over it.
Overthrow of the Shah of Iran (Friendly towards the west) and its replacement Islamic republic under the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini

Indeed, a clue in the photo too. And two Viva HCs, an estate and a saloon.

Well Hills was a huge Toyota dealer out of shot but behind the petrol pumps. They had another branch in Woodford.

The classic car dealership was quite a late addition. I spent every Saturday morning having a look to see what was new in.

That's a remarkably shabby looking Beemer given that it's probably only 2 or 3 years old, at a time when a 2 door 3 series was a seriously premium priced bit of kit!

As opposed to a four door E21?

In the case of the GT40, a large number of the genuine articles are still active and I'd like to think still could be long into the future. We can but hope anyway.

A golden oldie, Leightonstone High Road in the late '70s...

Leytonstone! Where I was born and live!

To the left of that shot was the showroom of Hills of Leytonstone, a great little classic car dealer in the mid to late '80s. Went years ago and is now just anonymous looking flats.

I apologise most profusely Kimosabe!

Found these today, a couple of my home town of Rugby, this one I think is from c.1978 / 79 when S-Type Jags could be had for the price of a bag of crisps, the printer's workshop was demolished very soon after to make way for a gyratory system and the building on the left is Rugby School...

Clifton Road with the now long gone East Warwickshire College sometime in the '80s, there were still a lot of '70s Fords about round here in those days...

Generally I'd say I'm quite good at ID'ing cars, but 90% of those 70's Yank Tanks really do look the same

Dozens of Beetles and Variants, a couple of TR6? (look too small for American?) a 124 Spider, couple of 911 and I think a Moggy Thou of all things?

Bottom right looks like a blue Hillman Avenger, so a Plymouth Cricket probably (exotica? Pah!)

Over on the left is a big Mercedes , maybe a 300SEL, looking like a baby amongst the yank land yachts

Looks like a Civic/Datsun 100A on the right centre by the hashed markings and another TR6 above it. Interesting to see the almost complete lack of vans, pickups and 4x4s as well. On the far lower left just above the yellow car there seems to be a TR3/Morgan of some description.
