Very nice, what was the difference in power between the s and non s?
For the XK150 the nominal figures were3.4SE 210BHP
3.8SE 220BHP
3.4S 250BHP
3.8S 265BHP
In theory there was also a non SE version with only 180 fictional horses worth of power, but there is no record of one ever having be made and considerable doubt as to whether the factory ever got as far as agree the full spec for them.
The SE gets the "B" head and a pair of HD6 carbs, while the S gets the straight port head fed by a triplet of HD8 carbs. The 3.8S engine went on to become the engine in the early E-Types but with different inlet manifolds.

And all the better for it.

Or maybe they can shed some light on Jaguar bhp claims of that era, as they are a work of fiction in the world as we know it now!
Yes the fictional horses that Jaguar were talking about back then were different fictional horses to those we talk about now. I think Jaguar switched to quoting DIN fictional horses with the SeriesIII XJ with its larger valves and injection system and dropped their claim to somewhere in the 190s range IIRC for what would have been the most powerful version of the XK engine they sold until the modern recreations. These days it isn't too hard to extract the sort of numbers Jaguar were claiming back in the day, but on modern dyno's fictional horses. XKman said:
Hi all, sorry it has been a while. Unfortunately I was locked down half an hour away from my worshop, so prigress has not been as fast as I had hoped. Hiwever, getting there. Just the distributor, HT leads, coil and a few water pipes to fit and then we can start the engine!
Great to see this thread resurrected. Looking forward to the fire up XKman said:

Was that the original colour it came in? I must say it looks absolutely sublime!
I'm not sure originality is terribly important on that car but it looks stunning.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
