XK120 banger racing!
Discussion
Astonishing story.
I hold no issue with the banger fraternity providing their cars are obtained legally. I remember that in advance of the 'Last Westie Meet' the Austin Westminster club but put warnings to hide their cars away!
If no one banged them the survivors wouldn't be worth anything.
The rebuild is amazing and I look forward to more pics!

Was that the original colour it came in? I must say it looks absolutely sublime!
I'm not sure originality is terribly important on that car but it looks stunning.Cream leather trim with blue piping would go pretty well with that, but then it isn't my car (sadly).
You are right Phil. It is Ecurrie Ecosse blue it is a lovely colour and I thought would be a fitting colour for an ex "racer". For those who do not know, it is worth reading about Ecurrie Ecosse, a private racing team in the 50's, based in Edinburgh who had considerable success with C and D types at Le Mans etc .

I don't think I have either, but it looks fantastic!

Dark metallic blue with cream interior is a bit of a cliché. But bks to that it looks great and is exactly what I've just put in my TR6. Cream leather trim with blue piping would go pretty well with that, but then it isn't my car (sadly).
It gets dirty rather easily, I've found

I would love to see how a classic car auction house describe it were it ever to come up for sale.'In 2015 the automobile was successfully campaigned in the highly prestigious 'Classics Carnage' at the world-renowned East Anglia Arena, with a number of victories for legendary driver Dave 'Knobhead' Harris. The purchase of the vehicle affords the rare opportunity to be invited to a range of other illustrious events'

I've read this thread in its entirety over the last couple of days and I'm gobsmacked. Complete emotional rollercoaster from my stomach dropping at the beginning to the feeling of awe I have now of the beauty of it and the commitment XKman has showed it. I'd love to see this at an event someday. Proper cars like this are what cement my love of cars.

Just wonderful to see this car back from the brink and set to embark on a new adventure. Well done Sir, huge congratulations for undertaking the challenge, looks great now, can't wait to see it finished. The story of this car's life would probably make a good book!
Just to add another PEDANT WARNING the correct name for the blue that Ecurie Ecosse used back in the day was Flag Blue.

possibly my fav ever thread on PH, I always dip in to check on progress, cars looking very sharp now looks like you are doing a fantastic job and building your car your way shame you had to cut into such an original car to get the carbs on though
theirs a real sense of freedom from saving a car from death that you can build it however you like Guilt free
love it looking forward to the big start up
couldn't let the below go without a PMSL either

Really pleased that I started this thread all those years ago (under my previous forum name).
The thread serves so many purposes. A look into the mentality of banger-racing (which is way more involved than many people give credit for - remember, for most people involved in the sport, cars are their life both in work and in leisure) and also in the determination to gives these cars a new life.
I think everyone comes out well in this, which make a change...

Many thanks for all your comments and the correct pedant warnings.
Mogsmex, don't worry, the inner wing had been damaged in the banger race and was by no means perfect. We had to replace all the outer wing from the A post to above the front wheel and the shut face panel, plus repair the A post along with the hinge boxes.
Matt Cup, sorry, no blue interior. Obviously there was no interior with the car and the original seats had been taken out, so I had a pair of buckets made in steel and they have been trimmed in Old red leather. The door cards, and more importantly, the aluminium trim panels surrounding the door cards were also gone so I have just made new door cards and will leave the rest exposed. I also managed to find a part, red carpet set for £80 on eBay a few years ago and this is ideal as there are no rear seats and I am not trimming the rest of the interior, except for the dash, with a kit from Aldridges in Wolverhampton.
So to satisfy Escort 3500, see the interior photo.
