Used to be loads, Arena Essex, Crayford, ALdershot & Wimbledon. Competed at the latter two. Only one left I know of is Arena Essex & I think that maybe under threat. Swaffham is still going, not sure about King's Lynn but both are a fair haul from the SE.
Arena Essex closed down last year

Ipswich is still going strong

And Henham near Stansted

I only ever raced at Arena Essex and in a field near High Wycombe (I wish I could remember the name of the place) although "Elf & Safety" was notable by it's absence at the latter!

But as well as Ipswich, Spedeworth are still running meetings at Great Yarmouth, Eastbourne/Arlington and Aldershot.

ETA I just remembered the field was in a place called Prestwood. There was a TV series with John Alderton that it featured in - maybe Forever Green?

This is banger racing as it should be. Worthless old snot being given a final blast.

As for 'classics' - an utterly knackered A60, Cortina etc isn't really a loss. There are still enough of them about and all those who say 'it should be saved' are the ones least likely to stick their hand in their pocket and actually buy it. The cost of restoring a rusty Mark 10 Jag with shagged trim/chrome etc means it's a scrap car at the end of the day. Sell the good bits, banger it, job done.

But there is no reality in saving a lost cause!

My 1st banger race was in the late 80s in a 1973 Ford Consul (looked the same as a MK1 Granada) with the hateful 2 litre V4 engine that was clapped out anyway and it was also pretty rotten.

Who would have bought that as a restoration project - not you I'm sure!

So why not give it 15 minutes (OK, maybe more like 5 in my case) of fame as a final send off?

Well today the XK150 moved under irs own steam for the first time. We loaded it on a trailer and it has gone to Norfolk Classics and Sportscars. They are going to do the caster and camber, plus the tracking and also sort out one or two little niggles, including fitting the front windscreen chromes. They will also check the engine timing and adjust the carbs.
When it is back there are then one or two electrical jobs to do, door and boot seals to fit and carpet on the gearbox tunnel, plus safety belts and then she will be running in!

Great work, ended up reading the whole thread!

Be good to get a board or something for if you go to any Jag/XK events showing the history of the car

Well, she is on the road! I took it on a trailer to Norfolk Sports and Classic Cars in Fakenham for them to set the castor and camber. I also asked them to have a good look over her and they found the drivers side rear brake caliper was scraping the disc in one area. It turned out the halfshaft was bent, presumably from the banger race. I happened to have a spare and with that plus a few other jobs done she was on the road. I drove her back home, she is noisy inside as some of the carpets are not in and there is no sound deadening, but she goes well, although I am running in for 500 miles so sticking to a maximum of 3000 revs. The overdrive is also not working which hopefully is just the solenoid.
Still some door seals and the carpets to finish but she is looking good. I will post a photo separately.
