Yes it was up on the bay several years ago now , I needed the space. The capri was in a lock up and hadn't been started for at least 6 years ,
She went to Capri Spares in Norfolk for a rebuild which cost £2,500 back in the early 90's
The mechanicals were perfect, great oil pressure

by this time I had the Cologne Capri that was under renovation and a Nimbus grey 2.8i Special as a day to day driver

she was really solid , i owned the car since 87 ,I bought her of a good friend who was well known by the boys in blue for ...driving her a tad fast !!!...........the days when the local plod had 2.8i Granada's.
In fact the day i bought her and drove the 4 miles to my house i got pulled over because the local plod did not recognise the driver and thought i'd stolen her !!

The crazy thing is I need a complete black mk1 facelift interior for the Cologne ,( dash panel , Steering column shrouds , glove box etc ) and these parts are proving really hard to find ,

cheers

Mk1 GT. This one looks like it could have come from the factory with a V8 instead of an Essex.

Interesting feature in Feb 2015 Classic Car magazine. Resto of a white facelift 3000GT. Very impressive resto work and an Essex to die for. The resto work and parts quoted from the mag as costing £59k.

Well done Paul Bailly for saving the GT. You have a very cool Capri there.

This one's advertised as a Perana replica. Unfortunately it's not a Ford V8. It's a 3-litre engine in a 4-cylinder shell with some bits painted black. Easy to spot.
Advertised as never having been welded. Hmm. Looks ok tho.

On the other hand, the "RS2600" bitsa should have been welded, there are only 2 tack-welds holding the lower rear quarters to the roof.

The maize GTXLR is gorgeous. But not nearly as gorgeous as £30k.

He`s local to me. The cars are all South African imports and the majority are solid.

Came across this as I'm helping a mate of mine to get his 1970 MK1 3.0 GT XL on the road and registered in the UK as it's a South African Import.
Has been in the Country for 3 years and should be on the road in a couple of weeks.

How funny i had WTW 422L, a white 3.0 GXL, although when it was written off found out the lump was a 2.5 transit engine!
always wondered why it was slower than the other 3.0 i had....

Not a MK1 3 Litre but I have very fond memories of being let loose in my Dad's old black 3 litre MK2, LFF 521R is still on the DVLA database but hasn't been taxed since 2001

Great thread, but sadly I can't add anything useful!

My only Capris were 2.8 Injections (as they were quicker as standard than a 3 litre)!

KGT 302Y and XTM 520X where are you now? laugh

Might of been faster but the Essex was such a nicer car to drive more torque that built from low RPM , the Cologne was a thrashy unrefined thing in comparison I have had both and driven plenty of both cool

Another of my many 3 litre capri,s this one with cologne body kit.
Some body kits work well on a Capri, subtly menacing.

Other Capris have been modified differently

On balance, I'd like both please.

My old 3.0 Capri, rallied it for years in the mid 80's to early 90's,took it into the forest's a couple of times, but was to much like hard work to keep it on track, stuck to tarmac after that, had quite a few top 10 results with it, think it is used in classic saloons now.

Seeing that and I immediately thought of Roger and Stan driving these beasts nearly half a century ago..... biggrin
