My old 3.0 Capri, rallied it for years in the mid 80's to early 90's,took it into the forest's a couple of times, but was to much like hard work to keep it on track, stuck to tarmac after that, had quite a few top 10 results with it, think it is used in classic saloons now.
Seeing that and I immediately thought of Roger and Stan driving these beasts nearly half a century ago.....
Thanks for putting up the old Rallycross 4wd pictures we were talking about these on page 2 (8 years ago now!) and on page 7 someone had found an original 4wd rallycross capri that was going to be restored, I wonder what happened with that? Its great when these old things get discovered and restored!

Found this old pic of my old car on internet. Don't know when it was taken. It didnt have the webasto in when i had it. Remember paying either £500 or £550 for it, was taxed and tested as well!

Great thread, but sadly I can't add anything useful!
My only Capris were 2.8 Injections (as they were quicker as standard than a 3 litre)!
KGT 302Y and XTM 520X where are you now?
Not sure about KGT302Y but XTM520X is alive and well and living in Orkney, the car has been there for most of its life I believe. A couple of pics from taken around 5 years agoMy only Capris were 2.8 Injections (as they were quicker as standard than a 3 litre)!

Posted about it before, but I know where that car is (although can't say as owner passed away so sensitive subject). It was restored to its original rallycross spec by Chic Doig in Fife a few years ago. There is a pic further back the thread of first time I saw it pre restoration (in a lovely orange and black paint scheme). Seeing that and I immediately thought of Roger and Stan driving these beasts nearly half a century ago.....

Restoration was complete bar the engine rebuild. I saw it before it left Chic's garage and it was glorious.
But the owner was killed (at a racetrack in Germany) around the same time. Car is still in the possession of his family but behind closed doors. No idea if or when we will get a chance to see it again I'm afraid.
ETA - I am actually about to drive over to the restorers shop for some parts. I'll ask if he has heard anything.
A GXL that hasn’t survived. It was owned by a good pal in who lived in Harlow, in circa 1979 / 80. Vague memories of a ride in it once. It’s not showing on DVLA, so not sure if it was a 72 or 73.
It met its end, on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road, in Hertfordshire, in a head on, with a lorry. Fortunately without serious injury.

There is a Capri specialist/restorer in Orkney, one of ours ended up there and he got in touch asking for any details we had about it. Only a 1.6 Laser.Tinky said:

I only just saw your post after this thread got resurrected today, so many thanks for that Tinky, I'm really glad it has survived - even if I often wish I hadn't sold it!
after two years with overseas commitments and back during lockdown , spent a bit of time getting the Capri back on the road.
with the garage full , including my late fathers wood working moulder there was little room for the Capri and whilst manoeuvring her ,,,,the drivers wing became creased when she hit the moulder ..
luckily the wings had been replaced and were solid , so used a jack to pull out as much of the dent as possible
used a pulling tool
then panel hammers
filler / primer
not perfect the paint ran so will need rubbing down , it was then time to change the brake fluid , bleed the brakes and finish off the installation of the electric fan ,
finally ready to insure and take out on her first run , a great result from Admiral on multicar policy , £ 91, with agreed value of 10k and tax/ mot exempt , so hopefully cheap motoring ,
so yesterday after cleaning the fuel filter she went across the New forest for her first run , will need to adjust the throttle linkage and carbs as she was over idling at 2000 revs .......and when i hit traffic in Lyndhurst which was nose to tail .....she pinked back fired through the carbs and stopped. On the hill on the approach to town .with a queue of cars behind a friendly chap in a transit gave me a tow to the top of the hill .... after 5 mins tinkering , she roared back to life and i continued to meet up with friends in Beaulieu .
lots still to do but great to enjoy the weekend having a blast ......

She was originally registered in Nth London, in October 74 ( took a long time to sell ( or she was a Dealer Demo car ) Tax was due in Feb 88 ( but loads of us drove with no rent in the screen back then ) and a V-5 was last issued on November 5th 1990.
An HPi will show if it’s on another plate.
Literally just discovered this image !! It shows the May 1970 FordSports Day Capri race @ Brands Hatch. 20 x 3 Litre Cars, were driven by 20 top drivers of the day, including Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill and the race winner Piers Courage ( who tragically lost his life some 6 weeks later in Holland @ the wheel of a De Tomaso from memory.
At least one of these Capris has amazingly survived. Film of the race is on You Tube.
But sadly, no film is thought to have survived of the 1972 Capri race.
