MK1 3 Litre Capris, How Many Survive ?
Discussion
Thank you, Neutral 3, yes I think most of the rot was down to the drains for the sunroof on that one. I used to joke that there was more 'Tim' in that car than there was 'Henry'! Certainly, I replaced mostly everything bar the roof and rear quarters, and it could have done with them too, lol! I see you once owned a Hemi Challenger as well as a Capri, so you are truly a rear-wheel steering expert then!
Capri roof drains....how could i forget them......In around 1986, i did a swap on a Saphire Blue 3000 Facelift, M reg,Auto, the one with the Hideous Huge square headlamps ( must be as rare as hens teeth now as they wernt common then ) .
It had a Factory fitted steel sunroof , but the roof was starting to bubble up every where so i rapidly sold it. It was very slow as well, many of the 3 Litres were mechanically tired when i owned them, with the exception of EVC-289L, which was a very quick car.
Re the 1970 , "426 Hemi Challenger"......WHAT A CAR....my late Father shipped it over from Pennsylvania in late 1972. It was a White "RT SE" ( Small Rear Window ) White Vinle Roof , Auto, Red interior, Chrome boot rack, one Owner ( his Faboulousy wealthy friend) who bought it new . I well remember my first sight of it and rideing in it.
It kept breaking fan belts and i also remember the Honda Four Rider who couldnt beleive how quick it was from the Lights somewhere on the North Circ Rd !!. Muscle cars were bad news then, almost impossible to sell. He sold it on to an American Car Dealer in London,in early 1973. i have been trying to trace it for years, without success. If i can get the photos ( Ex wife has them ? ) i will put them on here .

Wow.... a Hemi RT/SE..... would be worth a fortune today!!Only 60 cars were specced with the Hemi and RT/SE options.
My Mk1 (DGO 525H) was unusual; it was a 3000GT - no option packs.
No dummy air-vents or over-riders, no spot or reversing lights, no black rear panel.
Bench rear seat, silver grille, plastic steering-wheel, non-dipping mirror and no heated rear window.
Being a GT it did have Rostyles and a six-dial dash.
Fairly rare (i.e. unpopular) colour, too: Light Orchid (metallic pink).

Forsure, what happened to it, any idea? Singlecoil, if we had all been blessed with foresight there would be a lot more very cool stuff around!
I sold it when the second '70s fuel crisis hit; my annual mileage was quite high at the time.Never saw or heard of it again.
Fantastic car, and possibly unique in that spec and colour.

Great photo ! And I do remember that colour !! I def rem seeing it on a 2 Litre Gt. In East London .
Thanks. I'm sure I saw other Capris in that colour, but none with the same (lack of) spec.Definitely remember it on Cortina 1600Es. It seemed to last better than 'Blue Mink' and 'Silver Fox' - which peeled off after a few years.

one of the best modified early racing capris was the basil green v8 peranas...
Glad you like Peranas (and my site too)Basil Green built South Africa's first (and possibly the world's first) 3 litre Capris http://perana.org/capriv6.php
Ha Tali1, the car park of the Epping Forest Country Club used to be full of 3 Litre Capris ( or if you had Wedge, Corvette Stingrays ) on a Fri or Sat night.
My mate pulled out of there one night in his Mint White GXL , gave it a bootfull and the seat back colapsed on him. A common fault on these cars .
He used to drive it with the spare wheel wedged behind his seat....
