Estates That Never Were.....
Discussion
What shocks me about the Rossmobile is the finish of the thing!
That trim between the rear wing and the extended roof looks to be held on with self tappers.
My experience of the Avon was that attention to detail was pretty good. The boot floor for example was from a Volvo 245 which gave the option of an extra pair of seats. Rear side windows were 'specials' with a double curvature. Problem with the tailgate was that it mated the Renault frame with a much heavier Jag bootlid. So heavy that flexing was inevitable and fatigue and rust was bound to follow.
Fuel tank venting was clearly a problem as a petrol smell was reported on the Motor road test and prevailant in my car too. Exhausts were supposed to have a special extension to keep fumes out of the slip stream and in through the tailgate seal. Just shows how much development needs to go into sorting a car properly.

MMMnnnn that's pretty pointed Young Sir, or am I just a little sensitive?
You are a little sensitive. Someone, not you, has 100% taken that from my Flickr page. It's a cropped version of my photo. Ultimately not fussed as the photo has no value, just more interested in the journey of the photo.inkiboo said:

The Bentley posted by BalmoralG set me thinking - How many different Estate conversions can you think of that were never officially produced. No semantics,- it's just a game
Here's a few to kick off -
What's quite amazing is that's my photo! Here's a few to kick off -

I wonder who stole it from my Flickr page?
I am the author of performance-car-guide. I source my pics from many places (all of which are suppose to be available to the public for rework/reuse). I was unaware that these pics were yours, unfortunately I can't always tell if my sources have got them from somewhere genuine and I have over 4000 pics on my site. I would be quite happy to remove the your pics from my site if you wish?
Mike
PS it may be better in future to change your flickr licence if you don't want anyone else to use them, as the setting you have suggests people can Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work and to Remix — to adapt the work (all be it with an attribution).
Well I didn't think the thread would run for this long; seems we all like estates
I was drawn to the Mustang Estate posted by Wolands A, I think it would be a car I would stump up hard cash for. I really like good design and even better if it's executed well (Jonathan R's Jag should just be executed! )
I can't think what the Mustang roofline reminds me of, is it the Audi A2? (not a fan of that car)
However from there I went trawling to find out more about the Mustang and came up trumps
Seems it was designed by these guys and they've created loads of concepts, some I guess manufactured and some just resting on the CAD board.
Have a trawl through the site, some great stuff- they seem to like Jags but what really caught my eye was the Rover 75 Convertible - stunning!
I deliberately haven't uploaded this time

Why did they never build this
http://www.cwwcardesign.com/cars/rover75convertibl...
Would have bought one in a heartbeat, especially with the V6 or V8 lump.
I feel an idea for a project coming on. Given that you can buy W plate 75's for about £900 - would't it be great to take an angle grinder to it?

Why is my heart so fickle?

Auto Express did a feature before everything went belly-up for Phoenix-Rover, that showed a Rover 75 coupe and a MGF-based tintop, might have been badged "the cars to save rover" or something. Both of these were cars that I would have bought if I'd had the money, to the point I called Rover HO up and told them, and asked about plans for production - sadly there were none ...
That convertible linked above looks very similar, and I'm liking the suggestion from Radlet6 ...
