Sorry to say this...but with 'that' paint job the car looks naff!
To modern eyes, yes......but it's original, and that type of paint job was very much of its time. Mural paintjobs scream the 1970's. It took skill with an airbrush to do as well.
Its no different to all those vinyl wrap so-called customisations done to supercars etc by that Yanni bloke, who was featured on a TV programme.
Many people think thats very cool, others think its the high of naffness.
Horses for courses.

Of course it is horses for courses, totally agree.

However, how much 'better' would that car look in a standard Ford colour with all that horse power under the bonnet, it would be a great 'sleeper'? If I purchased it that would be the first thing to go....

Where would you stop though? That airdam is naff, the lights in the grill suck, vinyl roofs are so crap.... it's a special, unique car and that paint job is part of it. If you want it without the paint job better to buy a scruffy 1.6 and stick a 5.0 in it.

Preferred the Mk2 Cortinas with Essex V6's in them though, Savage? That and Perana Mk1's smokin

Indeed - and why buy it & erase its history, when you could just search out a rust free plain example & put a Mustang engine in that? I recall seeing it at the NEC a few years back, it's not my cup of tea either, but I wouldn't want to change it, any more than I'd want to put arms on the Venus De Milo...

“ Nighthawk “ that 427 Stingray, will Always be my favourite custom car.....
Agreed, the Capris paint job is awful, if it were mine I would re paint it in either that gorgeous light metalic blue, the white / gold JPS or the black / gold JPS.

Would it be OK to put a BO55 number plate on it?

(I know you couldn't because of the age difference.)
