I've gone with twin Strombergs on this, I was intending to put the overdrive box in but the gearlever position is a bit further forward and more difficult to sort out than I thought. I have a big valve head, cam, Dellortos and so on, but I'm not really sure they suit the estate. Incidentally the VX490 club still have a bounty out on those who scrapped "their" cars to nick the Getrag boxes.
Will I be forgiven if the donor had been heavily rear ended?Looking at the blue Capri....
We were camping in Brittany in the mid 70's when I heard an amazing exhaust noise & a Capri came in towing a caravan. It was driven by a Scotsman with a Russian partner (she worked for Matra) and he prepared cars for Ford France....this one had a Tour de France engine in it & he was trying out a new clutch by towing a caravan on the family holiday! earlier in his career he had been a mechanic for Jack Brabham & he had an amazing workshop on the outskirts of Paris. We went to see them in Paris & were taken for sweet & sour frogs legs at the Chinese restaurant that the Ford guys favoured! https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/2.gif

Sold this...
...and was planning to be sensible and not buy anything else as I have more cars than garage space.
Sensible got thrown out of the window when this came along...
Photo is very flattering as it's been in a garage since 1994, being slowly nibbled by tin worm, but it's a dry sump, steel GTB.
So I've essentially swapped a C2 Corvette that would hold it's own at a local show, for a rusty old Italian nail that will cost me thousands more. It might make no sense to those that are not afflicted with the classic car obsession, but I'm really excited at the prospect of the finished car and have a renewed 'spring in my step'!

Desirable or valuable???
Glassfibre cars are definitely priced higher. There are relatively few of them and so collectors chase them down. Going price has probably softened a bit but you'd have to part with around £140-150k to get a good one.
Steel cars are worth much less, but people are starting to chase dry sump GTBs (as opposed to the later wet sump carb cars).
I've bought it because I've twice sold carb 308s in the past and regretted it each time. This time I'm planning to learn from my mistakes!!

As always horses for courses I guess but I'd rather be with the C2 by a long long way and I'm a massive petrolhead...and was planning to be sensible and not buy anything else as I have more cars than garage space.

I'm sure you'll have fun though, good luck
Hi vpr
I have wanted a C2 for a long time and had the opportunity to live the dream. I'm not sure I'm done with C2s yet!!
The reason why a 1963 Saddle Tan 327/340 ticked all the boxes for me is a long story but it goes back to an issue of Hemmings and time spent in Texas in 1982 - so when this one came along it was a 'must'. Saddle tan cars are so rare, particularly when combined with Saddle tan leather.
However, with the benefit of the experience I'd probably go for a '65 or later C2 next time around. Have to say, the Corvette club (and NCRS) people are a great bunch and I've made a lot of friends.
Very different car to the 308! Needless to say, I can see the appeal of both.

I made the mistake 10 years ago of selling my 66 427 roadster. Although I did buy another dream car.
I always missed that car so much so bought another a couple of years back. I am lucky enough to have quite a few cars but the Vette is one that will stay, something very special about them
