Agree with you .. I know the rules have changed but to me they should only be on cars up to L reg. I don't understand why they decided to change the rules to 40 years. Soon my X reg 1981 spitfire will be allowed to have them which would just be wrong.Edited by Jonny TVR on Wednesday 12th June 08:55

Beautiful job....it’s screaming out for aluminium silver/black number plates...will make a lot of difference IMO for £40.
Debatable... some people think they look daft on cars that would never have had them. Thanks for the compliments guys. It's been a labour of love, sweat, tears, blood and more cash than I ever planned to spend. I'm happy with the result though, finally after 5 years.
There's lots about the car to get purists worked up. Trim from the 60's, panels from the 70's, chassis from the 80's, engine from the 90's, not to mention custom bits all over. I've not set out to recreate any particular car. I've just built a car with all the bits I thought best/prettiest from the Porsche back catalogue. It's not really a "backdate" in that sense, nor is it a Singer rep. I've seen many attempts at those, but those wide wings never look right to my eyes unless they are Singer's own bespoke ones.
As for the plates, an R reg isn't right for the year, either of the chassis or the "look." It's just a suffix plate I like. I have a pair of black and silver plates, but when I put them on it just looked a bit naff to me, plus it's only 37 years old so not entitled to them yet anyway. Black and silver plates on a black and silver car looked just a bit too monochrome and kitsch. I'm quite fond of the raised digit 70's style ones I have. I think they really set it off.
