What a shame about those rear exhaust boxes and ghastly wing mirrors on XFS 7.
Totally spoils it in my opinion.
I think the rear boxes are upside down.Being stainless they do stick out like a sore thumb. The Lionel Bart car A101 had a stainless steel exhaust from new.I never saw another. Totally spoils it in my opinion.

Wing mirrors do definately spoil the lines of a beautiful Facel II no doubt. However I can sympathise with owners who want to avoid being rear ended, especially with the pretty but totally non funtional rear lights. We had a customers black Facel II heavily shunted at the rear after restoration and en route to the MOT,whilst with us.We made up some extra rear lamps from trailor units which clipped on the rear parcel shelf.Removable but very visible from behind. The original Facel II rear lights would never pass muster today.Totally spoils it in my opinion.

Hi Richard,
Welcome to our little forum. Now you are the man that might know how many Facel 11's and HK500's are on the road? Hope your well. Regards, Adam Sherring.
Hi Adam, was it you who wanted my rimbellishers for Facel II or HK on ebay? I have two new ones left if you want them, cheers JohnWelcome to our little forum. Now you are the man that might know how many Facel 11's and HK500's are on the road? Hope your well. Regards, Adam Sherring.
Hi John. Thank you for posting. Yes I did try and buy your shiney rim embellishers? But I'm not very lucky with e-bay. Thank you for your kind offer but I need four. When the car is finished at the trimmers I will know exactly what I require and I hope you can help. I hope your well. Regards, Adam.
I've previously posted these on the period photos thread, but it seems appropriate to include them here too:
Apologies for the poor quality scans. Unfortunately I don't know much about the pictures: I made a bulk purchase of old photos and they were among them. There were a few other Facel photos that I will also scan when I get the chance.
Cheers,
Andy

Regarding the registration, it doesn't look like the usual UK type face for registrations. It looks more French than UK; if it were French, could there be something in front of the four digits?
It looks like the vehicle is in the UK judging by the phone box and the XK in the background of the two pics - oh, and the Church's shoes walking past the phone box. And the car is left hand drive, of course, so 'only visiting' perhaps. Someone, somewhere will tell us more.
Meanwhile, in Beverly Hills, a modified FV4 for restoration has just failed to sell at $18,988 on e-Bay in spite of 41 bids but no last minute flurry of interest. The reserve was not met.

Was not Mr Arnold Burton the first brit to import an Fv [before HWM took on the concession] But that was I am sure an FV3B not an early car like this one.It looks like the vehicle is in the UK judging by the phone box and the XK in the background of the two pics - oh, and the Church's shoes walking past the phone box. In Martin Buckley's book, he says that Brian Rix not only had a secondhand HK500 but also a new Facellia. Jean Daninos says,in his book, that Rix had HK F3 which is fairly specific and a right hand drive car. One of our HK500 correspondents will have to tell us if that car still exists.
In Buckley's book, Rix is photographed in a white Facellia, but you can't see much of it. According to Buckley, he apparently bought it in March 1962 when it was already 18 months old. FA C-142 was the first Facellia imported, in July 1960, then FA C-185, 187, 188 and 194 were imported in September of that year, followed by FA D-117 in November plus others.
The five possible cars (those registered in July and September) still exist in various forms. Facelman knows about two of them, C-185 which apparently became a Bugatti, and C-194, Diana's. C-187 is in Italy, apparently, Nigel Cooper has C-188 and Charles Wells has C-142. Now just a small matter of elimination...

Facelman has OWNED ALL five of the Facellias mentioned.I still have the "Bugatti" and used it for the mayday event locally,I sold FAC 142 to the man who sold it to Charles Wells,I sold FAC 194 to Diana,FAC 187 to the man who took it to italy,FAC 188 to the man who sold it to Nigel Cooper. The Rix car is not one of these five cars and unusually is one of the few Facellias in the UK that I have NOT owned.I could mention that I also owned YOUR Facellia Bob ! The one that got away is the Lance Macklin Facellia with a Mustang engine which was owned for many years by Mr Dave Evans [ex HWM mechanic ]who tragically died in america recently,he was a mechanic on a racing team. His car is still as far as I know in south london somewhere still with V8 power.[FAD 147] In Buckley's book, Rix is photographed in a white Facellia, but you can't see much of it. Are there (m)any that were brought into the UK that have just disappeared? ie have been bought and sold over the years and just ended up in private collections to come out once a year or crashed, or driven into a garage in 1982 and left there since etc - ie a few *missing* ones?
Didn't Quentin Wotsit own one years ago or was in a programme with one - can't remember which ...

To my knowledge no Facellia sold in the UK [or elsewhere for that matter] has had what could be regarded as a normal existance. My second car for instance,I bought when it was twenty years old.It had 23.000 miles on the clock, had not been driven for over ten years, and had 4 new engines in the first year of its life. The Lance Macklin car was used carefully for about 18 months [with strong factory support],then the engine blew up and a Mustang V8 engine was fitted. It then went into a south london lockup...and there it still is over 35 years later.Facellias have had variously, Triumph,Cosworth,Rover V8,Volvo,Daimler V8,Ford V8,engines fitted. In general the life of an average Facellia can be catagorised by very long periods of inactivity, puntuated by short periods of frentic activity and expense. The £2660 spent on a Facellia in 1961 was not a wise investment, compared to the £1900 spent on an "E" type Jaguar for instance.Mr "Whatsit" drove an HK500 for a TV program. Didn't Quentin Wotsit own one years ago or was in a programme with one - can't remember which ...
