I did quite like the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds....Gt500....fantastic car chase.

Ronin has to be in there too.

Surprisingly, the 355 vs Hummer in The Rock was quite good! (Sean Connery and Nic Cage, who was also the driver in Gone in 60 Secs...does alot of his own car stunts)

With you on both of those, the chase in the Bourne Identity was pretty good too.

With the Mini? I thought that was absolutely superb - really well done car chase. What distinguishes all the above car chases is how 'real' they were. The only thing I dislike about the 60secs chase was the 'jump' over the car transporter on the bridge, and the speeded up film in the flood drain bits - without those two bits of footage it would have seemed 100% real.

Oh of course, haven't mentioend the Italian Job yet (original...remake was wank)

How about the Brosnan bond film with the tank chase around St Petersburg?

I'd still vote for the Bourne Identity, but surprised no-one's mentioned Bullitt or even Duel (I think that's what it was called, with the lunatic truck driver)

Ronin - the Peugeot/BMW one. After buying the special edition DVD with the 'making of' section that chase seems even more amazing than it first appeared.

Since the brief bit I caught wasn't just car chases and not just film based but also TV & news I'd say the greatest ever screen chases were the ones at the end of the Benny Hill Show.

it was Ice Cube and the waste of celluloid was Triple X number 2, and yes it was a Pimp My Ride-esque festival of crassness.

The original film had a fantastic chase - seemed to be half the film!

As for MI-2 when he is on the bike check out the rear tire as it keeps changing as they go from tarmac to dirt etc

I dont really rate the chase in Bullitt that highly. I know its legendary, just dont think that much of it.

I think cumulatively you'd be hard pushed to beat all the chases in Smokey and the Bandit. Some of them are shear comedy.

The final stunt scene in Hooper isnt exactly a chase but it is a cracking car scene.
