1 Litre of water equals approximately 1 kg.

Well, to be pedantic, one litre of water has a mass of 1kg, and a weight of 9.86 Newtons.

I'm sure it would weigh the same if it were in a plane on a conveyor belt, but if you nuked it from orbit it would clearly weigh more...... or perhaps less!

Hence I didn't use the word "weighs" .

And that should be 9.80665 Newtons

Related question, (and in the spirit of recycling): How much would a litre of petrol weigh? (Assuming room temperature, constant gravity of 9.81m/s etc)

Litre = fluid measure, so you're implying pickled onions are a fluid.

So 500ml of Pickled onions weighs (yes, yes, I know I'm using the wrong term but look how far pedantry got me earlier!) 7.5kg?! 7.5 times the weight of a bag of sugar for a small jar of pickled onions. It's clearly going to be more than that, I reckon more like 35-40 times heavier!

Now pickled eggs, they're probably 15 times heavier.

She has a can of aerosol spray that is advertised at 500ml, and the can weighs 485 grams without the lid ( they all do, so it is not just one can that has been used ), so she has been undersold hasn't she.

Depending on the specific gravity of the petrol, which is around the 0.8 mark, it would have a weight of 0.8kg

depends on the type of petrol, F1 fuel has a mass of approx 850g/l

I think the 'brains - dangerousness' proportionality function is at play here
