In Slough there's one of those places that will take crossed cheques from any reputable source and give you cash (how do they DO that?). It's called:-

CHEQUE POINT CHARLIE'S

Makes me chuckle whenever I see it, which, thank God as it's in Slough, I don't often.

BTW, you have to be "of a certain age" to appreciate it.

Heard of an Irish restaurant in London called 'Soup in a Basket' and a carpet shop in Heavitree, Exeter called 'Walter Wall Flooring'

Near the original Checkpoint Charlie was a clothing store called Pik Ass - I have the photo to prove it!

Used to be a shop in Guildford High Street called Knobs & Knockers it sold door handles & stuff.

Both of these were on Kings Rd back in th early 80's, one at the top end near Sloane Square, a cowboy boot shop called "R Soles", then further down by the turning to Albert Bridge a chinese take away called, and I kid you not "Ho Lee Fook".

My dentist worked out of a practice called 'Broken Acre' - funny man!!!
