OP

Gosh...yes thought of two more

Le Bon Coin

For whatever reason the French don’t really like eBay...search leboncoin and you’ll find it...a sort of better gumtree...and you can get very very local searches...for stuff you might need cars, tractors, furniture, including those bits of French furniture your other half wants ...you know distressed over size mirrors ...armoires etc
(For interesting cars, try brand specific pre 80’s all sorts of distracting cars still running)

Brocantes, Vide Grenier etc

The French have helpfully co-ordinated their version of boot sales onto a national website
https://vide-greniers.org/ Massively variable ...some are good cultural experiences, some especially in expat pat hot spots are over priced tat for Les Anglais...but fun nonetheless.

I also learned yesterday that there are only certain times I can cut my lawn too (luckily before I made a faux pas by doing it outside those times!!)

My pal and I are in Charante minus the wives for a week or two. The weather is ideal as not too hot. We have a modest house barn and field and just adore the ambience. It’s total chill out country.
Today we have faffed am, followed by lunch and now we are having Pastis on ice. Here’s Ted

Out of interest, how and where did you find that out, and were there any other quirks?

We get a little useful book from the Marie that tells you the multiple bin collection cycle and the restrictions on "Motor de Jardin"

Inerestingly we now have a new place and I asked a neighbour for advice where to find that regulation for the new location. He simply said there was nothing written so just dont take the piss. No one wants to hear a lawn mower through lunchtime (12:00 to 14:30) or on a Sunday afternoon.

Does anyone know if the 2nd Sunday Jonzac meet is still on the go?
Life in France has been delightful until today when my pal slipped off a stepladder and has damaged his arm. There were no bones sticking out and he can move his fingers so a trip to Bebezieux a & e is on hold.
Last nights torrential rain tested our new roof big time but no leaks apparently until I visited the downstairs loo which was under 10mm of the wet stuff. The ingress of water was at ground level due to lack of rhone pipe at side of roof away from main pipe work. A minor fault with major consequences that I queried with the roofer at the time.
Anyway the Mrs is arriving this week with her best French at the ready to sort him out. smile

A work colleague who lives near me kindly pointed it out - and pointed me in the direction of the Mairie website where there are lots of other useful things I don't understand that will come back to trip me up... wink

Thanks. Pal's arm was x rayed by very nice lady this morning and found to have no breaks thankfully. Excellent service all round although there may be a bill in the post for his insurance to sort out.
