If it is a mobile camera, yes, you'll be fined on the spot. These letters that drop through your letterbox are from fixed cameras with no BiB present. so, if you are naughty, they'll keep on coming.
Sorry to disagree, police in lay-by, dual carriageway dropping to 90 kph for every junction, ticket posted.
But that’s French registration. Maybe different for UK reg but if it’s a minor infraction, not a vehicle confiscated offence, I think they don’t bother with a pull over on the spot fine anymore. Used to be before the system was introduced.
Most of the 24 hours speeders club now report letters received not trips to cash machines as it used to be.

Hopefully, we will no longer aid the French scamerati, costing the UK taxpayer in the process.
So it’s entirely acceptable for your son to speed and to the extent that it’s a speed where a fine must be levied?

Presumably you’d be in favour of French cars coming to the UK and doing 90 in 30 zones too yeah? 150 around the M25? Late at night, obvs. And any fines dished out can be ignored, to avoid aiding the UK scamerati?

To be fair, when coming to the UK I am exempt of paying the tolls on the queen Elizabeth bridge and the Dartford tunnel, as are all foreign plates. That isn't our fault, just the system. I must admit though that I have taken advantage of average speed zones once or twice!

That wasn't the case for my father in law - Spanish registered car and he got a ticket for forgetting to pay for the QE bridge.

I was disappointed that my Mrs insisted on paying the Dartford toll after we went through the tunnel on Dutch plates the other week biggrin I'm still not sure about speed cameras in the Uk though.

I think it depends from area to area. A friend was in a Portuguese registered car and was asked what money he had in his wallet of which he had none so they took his details down. He never got anything in the post though so obviously couldn't be bothered.

One of the guys I normally drink with is a gendarme and he says it is very much individual discretion from station to station, not even departmental

It seems like there might be a temporary suspension of information sharing.

Few other UK outlets reporting the same. I do wonder how this happened given the provisions for information sharing in the deal?

What price the frogs asking for a 'surety'/bond of £500 (for example), redeemable in 6 months pending no speeding fines.....

Then you are liable. I hope they get to you. The law changed only on Janusry 1st.

They haven’t yet ID’ed the driver for either - the £300 one (Germany) I’d pay if they followed up/ID’ed the driver, the other £3.5k was farcical - out of town location on the ticket and they’re trying to apply the in-town limit - was a £10 fine if they applied the correct limit for the road - I’m not going to fight something that can be ignored.

We’ve sent the V5 away with a change of keeper, backdated to prior to the date of the offence, so they can’t get the details now anyway.

It was 2 incidents, one where there was an obvious error that they’re trying to charge £3.5k for, the other was a random lowering in autobahn limit as I neared the end of a 10 hour drive.

If you can avoid them, instead of having the hassle of fighting it/having your wallet raped, why wouldn’t you.

If you have bothered to follow this thread, it is the owner of the car who is responsible for the fine. The question of who was at the wheel does not enter into the equation. And the sum of £3,500 is not a fine that is in the french level of fines, so something in what you say is not adding up at all. The maximum fine is €1,500 for a speed at more than 30 mph over the prevailing limit. bviously, if you have been receiving correspondence for a while, it will have increased because you haven't paid. But still, what you are saying does not add up. Changing the name on the V5 won't help either. They have the name and address of the owner at the time of the offence.

These are Croatia/Germany - I hijacked the thread as new developments span Europe. Both of the above require driver ID. The V5 change was submitted in October, with a change of keeper date prior to the "offence", the new keeper is the one needed, they can't access that info now.
