The French government is all over the place on this, unusual for them, but it may stick despite the French Twittersphere lighting up with understandably indignant comments. Watch this space...…..

To make this clear, before anyone else does wink the subject of the tweet is the 14 day confinement for people entering France.

well i made it home...just!

rebooked the ferry over the phone 2 weeks ago, DFDS Dieppe 3rd may 18.00, confirmation email with all the details.
peage @ top end of A28 before Rouen, 4 gendarmes having a good old natter, all look over, not one of them interested presumably heading North, UK plates?
got stopped along with another French car approaching Dieppe where the new bypass is being built @ St Aubin.....hold up the paper with 'return' etc at the bottom, glances at it, asks if we speak French, i shrug and say a little, looks again and obviously sees the handwritten bit and then in better English than my french says ' no problem, have a pleasant trip'

arrive at Dieppe ferry at 16.45, not a f****n soul about, every gate locked, offices shut, no signs/notes anywhere rolleyes
nothing on website, twitter, my emails, phone.....OH says cant you ring them? laugh
customer services in France? Sunday?

drive up to Calais, consider going to DFDS there, decide against it as i needed time to cool down
so Eurotunnel relieved me of £126 for the privelige.

Blighty hasnt changed a bit in 7 weeks...less traffic definitely but the roads and drivers....Folkestone to Midlands, at least 8 sets of roadworks and limits and the usual numpties even @ midnight in lane 3 of 4 nothing about pottering along at 65 and even 1 of them still managed to chop across 3 lanes with 150yds to go to exit the M25 eek

i wish i'd have turned round and stayed..oh well...

stay safe

Welcome back!
Wait until you go to a supermarket you will wish you stayed in France.
I’m waiting to get out there but not holding my breath, if it’s mid June I’ll be happy
At least you can get your bike out with no restrictions

All non-essential travel is prohibited in both France and the UK. Short answer.

After 2nd and 24th June, that could change in France depending on size of 2nd and 3rd waves. The UK seems to be some way behind France.

Unfortunately, a large number of second-home owners are turning up believing they have every right to, potentially, bring the fresh virus's to areas that have been under strict lockdown.

We, as residents, are limited to 100 km from our home so how these travellers get across the channel or down through France puzzles me. As does the attitude that also seems prevalent amongst them.

Do you think the French government will take the risk of opening up the country for Brits to come across for their holidays in the summer .
I am obviously interested as we HOPE to go down to the Dordogne near La Rogue Gageac in early August , although I can see places like the town markets being a bit dead.

The current position hints that travel may be possible for holidays within France in August, maybe, but it all depends on how the next month or so goes before a decision is made.

Anyone who gives a definitive answer at the moment is guessing.

Unfortunately, and I'm part of that unfortunate group as some of our income comes from preparing and maintaining gites which as you can imagine is a bit quiet at the mo, we simply have to wait.

As said above, the French would love to open up for the holiday period as many of us make a living from the tourism industry. This is why I, and many others, are concerned regarding those who rush down here, irrespective of governmental guidance and possibly bring about another lockdown.

I agree that for France this is just guesswork.

But the 50-point guidance in the UK is clear - but perhaps not for overpaid journalists.

1.9 Are day trips and holidays ok? Can people stay in second homes?

Day trips to outdoor open space, in a private vehicle, are permitted. You should practise social distancing from other people outside your household.

Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay at another home for a holiday or other purpose is not allowed. This includes visiting second homes.

Premises such as hotels and bed and breakfasts will remain closed, except where providing accommodation for specific reasons set out in law, such as for critical workers where required for a reason relating to their work.. End

In the UK, Matt Hancock was pretty clear on Monday saying “Do NOT expect to take a summer holiday overseas, this year. Yet some how most Brits seem to want to do a calculation of “Does this really apply to my own very special circumstances- I need a holiday and have paid a deposit?”

Maybe, but if you're coming to France, unless you have verifiable proof it's for business, you're dealing with the Gendarmerie and Police Nationale who, if they have the slightest doubt in your veracity will say simply, NON.

Yes agreed.
I've gone back to work this week, and I have to use our local main road for about 8 miles. It's one of the main routes for Spanish,Portuguese lorries heading across to north east France and beyond.
On the way home today there were plenty of cars from departments from a long distance passing by!
It's not making sense to be honest.

I have no idea. Maybe long distance permits are easier to obtain than I thought.

Plod must have stretched themselves when confinement came in,to be able to check people's papers etc the way they were.
Even out in the tiny country lanes we saw them. So maybe some were drafted into the rural areas and now have gone back.

I haven’t seen plod for ages!

The problem is people think the virus has gone because lockdown has been eased.
My FIL lives in our barn,he didn’t go out during lockdown,Mrs S did his shopping. Now the fker has been out every day, garden centre for ant powder, veg seeds, anything.
Just because things have been eased,he thinks it’s all been cleared up and it’s life as normal.
There are millions of fking idiots just like him,no masks,no hand gel and no social distancing.

We have been out a couple of times this week, but were pretty astounded to see everyone in supermarkets wearing masks, but also standing around and talking to people in the isles.

My two parameters for social distancing are proximity and duration. I regard everyone around me as a potential killer and so keep moving and give people the widest birth possible.

My friend, who has a suppressed immune system, drove back to his apartment in Versailles this week. He had a permit from his work, but was not stopped for a paper check there and back.

The brake definitely seems to have been lifted. Just not having to generate paper to go for a walk seems a huge step towards normality.

And it continues to be nice and sunny.
