It looks like a lot of things need to line up both sides of the channel before we can leave here for recreational travel...

Thanks for taking a common-sense attitude. Sadly, some people, both sides of the channel, seem too bound up in what they want rather than what is morally right.

Hopefully, we will all be able to travel again sometime later this year.

I miss England terribly and would like to come over for a week. Is it possible to get entry into the U.K. from France ATM and what are the rules regarding quarantine after coming back to France? I can’t not work for 2 weeks. Thanks for those in the know

My wife was doing the logistics this morning if we went back for vaccinations.

The positive that you can travel to your country of origin and also to your country of habitual residence, with a valid attestation.

For the UK, you need 3-tests, one before you leave France and 2 while in the UK, on days 2 & 8, during your 10-day quarantine. My guess is that you could use the 2nd test to return to France. Tests are £120 each in the UK and take 2-days for results. In theory, you can also have a test on Day5 and be released from quarantine on Day 7.

You then need 10-days quarantine in France.

All-in-all, i don't see that you can do much in the short time that you have available.

Thanks very much for the information 🙂

I have to say though that all those measures are utterly, utterly ridiculous. What do they think they’re dealing with, bubonic plague?

They won’t ban cigarettes to save the hundreds and thousands dying from cancer and cardiovascular disease though.

It’s pathetic.

I do sympathise, it will be great when we can all do the things we want to do again BUT..... we simply have to get on top of this virus globally. Why, because it keeps on throwing up mutations and the more people who are infected the more mutations we will have until the day comes when it throws up one which is immune to vaccine and meds, in other words untreatable. Then you will see carnage which will make Bubonic Plague look like a mere sniffle.

I’m afraid I don’t agree with that at all. Time and again the statistics show that the ONLY people who are vulnerable to this thing are the old and/or sick. 99% of the population are in no danger.

If you have someone with an immune disease or under chemo and thus immuno-compromised, you keep them in an oxygen tent and or allow no visitors. You do not order the entire population to stay at home and not travel.

I presume that their are people who specialise in this are of science who say that the government are correct. I'm not a scientist so I presume that following the rules is the best way forward.

Well, speaking as a scientist, you don’t have to be a scientist to get up and proactively look at the stats, you just need a willingness and a modicum of intelligence to apply some critical thinking.

With a population of unthinking zombies it’s not surprising these ridiculous rules are able to be applied.

God knows how much panic there would be if people realised how many people die each year from everything else. They’d be howling in the streets.

What science do you do? Why do you think that the scientists have got it wrong?

I don’t believe I said scientists have “got it wrong”. I said the government is managing it in an unnecessarily heavy handed manner.

Look I haven’t done this “discussion” thing on PH for a while and I can see where this is going. I’m not going to convince you and I don’t understand why you and others like you just accept all this so let’s not waste our time eh? wink

Thanks again to RDJohn (ETA) for the info up top :-)

Fair enough if you can't or won't answer. Maybe you could give your better ideas to the governments scientists if you think they have it wrong.

Well, I am an unthinking Zombie then but I am also just shy of 77 and with two cardiac problems whilst my wife is 74 and has a thrombosis problem. I would also make the point that smokers have the choice not to smoke but they choose to despite knowing the risks whereas you, or I, could be infected with Covid without knowing where it came from. Looking at the stats for the UK and NZ two days ago, there have been 1767 deaths in the UK and 5 in NZ per 1m population. I imagine this illustrates the difference between cavalier about Covid and observing the restrictions. On balance I hope to continue to be an unthinking Zombie in this world for a few more years rather than being very clever but dead!!

I have English friends living in France, they've been living a secluded, simple lifestyle there for 20 years and are now in their mid 60s.

How is the vaccine roll out going in (rural) France ? Here in the UK we appear to be steaming ahead, steadily ticking off the at risk groups and elderly people and are now vaccinating those in their 60s. Is similar progress being made in France ?

It would be nice if we could keep this thread solely on the subject of current info for those of us who live in or visit France and anyone who wants to argue the efficacy or lack thereof of current restrictions or vaccine delivery, please use the specific thread arguing that very subject in NP&E. Just my 2p, YMMV smile

Not as well as in the UK unfortunately. I have had both my jabs but seem to have just been very lucky, many of our friends in the same age group cannot even get a booking and nobody can say when they may. We are in a very rural area down near the Pyrenees but I can't say if this has any bearing on the situation. At least more locations for vaccination are coming on stream now but I suspect the situation is simply down to shortage of supply.

As we are not in lockdown then what's the point of this thread then?

I think Driller has given some valid thoughts about the corona virus and how it's being handled.
I'm a fit working 63 year old a desperate to go to a bar or restaurant.
Those that feel the need to shield then get on with it and leave the rest to get on with life like most French folks I know are doing.
